Amazon Fire 10 HD 7th Generation Android Tablet Review

The Amazon Fire 10 HD is a huge sibling for Fire 7 and 8 HD where it offers of overall bigger screen to enjoy, more performance, and long lasting battery life. The tablet is far more expensive than its little brother, but the specification is much better especially in term of performance. The MT8173B processor inside is far more powerful considering now it features quad core CPU with Cortex A72 architecture. The device is no longer used as just a control panel for controlling our home or reading a book, but also worked as a perfect entertainment place including of gaming.

For costs under 150 dollars, the Fire 10 is now comparable with Lenovo Tab 4 as both of them have similar pricing and specification. Tab 4 is better in software side as Google apps like Play Store and YouTube are available pre-installed. Here, we are stuck with proprietary application from Amazon and sometimes could bother you since some applications are not available in their store. Today, we are going to take a look into it further and see how it works for us. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.

Case and Design

Love it or not, we need to accept that they basically put the same design and construction, but in much bigger size here. Three different color configurations are still available included orange, blue, or the black one. For this review, I am getting the orange one and look not bad at all since the design looks so different than any tablet I have so far. The durability at this case is okay although I still notice the back cover warped easily when you press it. But, the material used here is better than you are going to find in the 7 or 8 inch model. I just hope they give us a better finishing for the surface since the one we see now feels less premium.

In term of dimension and weight, the tablet so far features a similar dimension to Tab 4 at 10.3 x 6.3 x 04 inches, but unfortunately the weight is slightly over at 17.4 ounces. The most common weight I find here is around 10 to 11 ounces. Still, I manage to carry it single hand without any problem although kids might have a problem for holding it longer. There is a huge change they might drop it and for this case I recommend you to put a hard case considering its neither of shattered or water proof.

Display and Camera

Amazon Fire 10 HD 7th Generation The biggest selling point to expect here is located on the display. The 10 inch display features a higher resolution at 1920 x 1080 and comes with 224 pixels per inch. For streaming movies, the HD display looks okay, but in reading text I need to admit the 108p screen looks much better as the pixelated text is now gone. If you love to read PDF text and browsing through the internet, the 10 inch model is more recommended to have if you have more budgets to spend. There is a huge price different, but seems worth to give it a shot.

I see of improvement in camera, but for some reasons they still put of 2 MP camera on the front and VGA camera on the back. At least, they should give us 5 MP back camera and 2MP front camera like Lenovo does here to its tablet. I was taking couple of images as a test and I never recommend you at all to use it as the main camera because the quality is just good and even bad. The images lost its accuracy and the color is just bland at all. Well, amazon never mentions the camera as the main selling point, so the result is pretty normal here.

Software and Hardware

The Amazon Fire OS is the main and the only operating system you have here. While, the users interface is promising, but I do not really like to see most of my favorite apps like YouTube, Google Music, and Google Maps are swapped with some unfamiliar apps. I pretty much accept it when they put all of this everything in Fire 7 considering its just 50 dollars, but here it feels different since they put of much higher price in some point. If you cannot live with some applications from Google, just never ever buy this tablet unless you want to spend more your time by side loading or installing the apps manually like I always do here.

In hardware performance side, the Mediatek MT8173B is a good and more powerful companion to depend. Inside, there are total of 4 CPU divided into two clusters which they call as Big and Little cluster. Mediatek puts of 2 cores low power Cortex A53 processor for taking the light activities like browsing and giving the chance for other 2 Cortex A72 CPU for taking more demanding activities like gaming. There is a huge difference in performance than all of its little brother combined here. The interface now runs smoother and games even more enjoyable to play.

Final Thought

The Amazon Fire 10 HD is not so impressive option compared to its much smaller model. The main reason I said that because of the price point. At nearly 150 dollars, you have so many good options from Lenovo or even Huawei which even have more features inside. The thing is worst where they still include their proprietary OS and apps where the Google apps replaced by some bad alternatives. If you ask me if the tablet is worth or not to buy, then the answer should be depending on your needs and usage. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration about it.
