Lenovo is back again in 2018 with another of Ideapad series. The Lenovo Ideapad 330S is meant intended to provide of several of hardware options depending on how much budget that users want to spend. The system is started for under 500 dollars and goes to around 800 dollars depending on what kind of hardware configurations you want. For this review, we are going to take a look into it mid-tier version. The laptop is equipped with Intel I5 from Kaby Lake R generation and coming with 8GB memory and 128GB SSD. There are more expensive models powered by I7 processor or getting the much cheaper model with Celeron processor.
As long as you do not mind with its crappy screen, this could be a good option for everyone who needs a slightly more performance in budget. Sadly, they still put of HD screen instead of full HD one, so never expect to really have such a good experience in multimedia purposes. This machine looks very similar to Ideapad 330 series that I have reviewed previously before. Well, let’s take a look inside and see how it works on us. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Case and Connectivity
I am used to see of a chassis created from plastic, but for this case we get a robust and stable chassis designed from aluminum. I am impressed on seeing some quality as I carry it over around with single hand, I am not seeing the case makes of weird of creaking sounds. In other case, the chassis also looks very premium and being typical of ultrabook. The base and lid cover are fully designed from aluminum, but I want to stress some its weak points especially in lid cover. The lid area is thin and somehow feels so flexible. I am able to twist it easily with some amount of power. The keyboard or base area is better as its not warping so easily.
Moving into the dimension and weight, I do not see something surprising about it. The weight itself is comparable to any 15 inch system we commonly see and the same thing offered by its dimension. Its weight for total of 1.8 kg and considered as light enough to carry around during the days. As for the connectivity, there are total of three USB ports which included of two USB 3.0 ports and a single USB type-C port. All of ports are placed in right side while leaving only a single USB 3.0 port, SD card reader, and Kensington lock slot.back to menu ↑
Display and Input
Two configurations are provided in term of display here. Users got of option to pick either of the panel with 1366 x 768 resolution or the one with 1920 x 1080 resolution. It has like 200 dollars price different here, so make sure to pick the one appropriate to you. You can also buy the full HD screen replacement for just 90 dollars from the internet and replacing it by yours. The model I have so far is the HD unit and in term of quality, the color accuracy and brightness is fine. The panel manages to cover of 60 % SRGB color and getting of 250 nits of brightness.
Moving into its input support, you have of a full size keyboard with good size of keys. The travels distant between keys are nice and amazingly comfortable to use for long usage. The numeric keys are featured although some of them look smaller than I thought. The normal keys itself are normal and probably considered as one of the best one to see at this price. The keyboard just takes time to get used considering some of its layout is weird due its small space.

Performance and Battery
You won’t give any complain toward its performance because Lenovo really provides the best it can do at this price point. The Intel I5 8250U performs a very well job on maintaining its performance although I notice some throttling. The CPU just failed to maintain the higher clock during long term of usage. Thankfully, users won’t notice it easily considering most of you would only use it for matter of light usage like browsing and document editing. The 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD are replaceable here and means you could just swap it easily when it’s got crowded inside. Previously, they solder all of the parts into the motherboard, but they do much better case here.
The battery life performance is sadly underwhelmed by its amazing performance. I always get either of 5 or 6 hours usage no matter of what kind setting I adjust here. The power consumption is low enough and even lower than its competitors, but unfortunately the battery capacity is small and this is the reason why the battery life is bad. The only way to charge the battery is through its proprietary port AC adapter and will take for 2 hours to fully charge the battery from 0 to 100 hundred %.back to menu ↑
The Ideapad 330S is considered as an ideal option for budget users. It does not have many things to sacrifice due its low pricing besides than the screen itself. The design is premium, performance is impressive, and the battery life is just good enough to support your work. Like I said before, users could just buy the screen separately and swap it for under 100 dollars and you have nothing to worry anymore. I have of HP 15 2018 as the alternative if you look for more alternative option to pick. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration about it. Thank you very much for reading our article and see you again next time.
