The Galaxy Tab A is getting a huge popularity when it’s announced by Samsung back in 2016. The 8 inch model is the most popular one at that time because it promises of a solid build quality and pretty acceptable performance for its price point. Now in 2018, the manufacture releases the new model, but for this time they decide the upgrade the 10 inch model. The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5 started for under 350 dollars and coming with decent specifications. It has a large 10 inch display and equipped with Snapdragon 450 and 32GB internal storage. The specification is not so high end, but end up as a huge deal comparing to its competitors.
Samsung is a very highly skilled in making a tablet since they already make so many of them since the beginning of 2012. Now, we are seeing so many competitors like Lenovo and Huawei that manages to offer of great affordability tablet. Still, users might find Samsung as their main option thanks to their high quality product. Let’s take a look inside and see how it works on us. That is what we are going to talk about here. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Compared to its predecessor, the design is remaining similar with few minor changes. The screen size itself is increased from 10.1 to 10.5 and some physical buttons are no longer used as tablet nowadays started to use of virtual navigation button. Interestingly, does remove their company logo which originally placed at the top of its bottom and making it looks plain at all. The bezel surrounded the screen is relatively thick for some reasons, but in good way should provide a better handling when you hold it with single hand. No big changes and only some minor upgrades over the button placement.
One big think they might improve here is the tablet thickness. They reduce its thickness and now only at 8 mm. You would never notice it greatly and you can easily see how its difference when you put the previous model side by side. Moving into the protection, the front glass is protected by Gorila Glass 3 while the back panel is made from plastic. It’s easily scratched, so better to put of a jelly or hard case especially when you want your children using it for a while. The overall impression is great although I am quite disappointed on seeing how it’s similar to the predecessor.back to menu ↑
Display and Camera
Samsung puts of 10.5 inch IPS panel with 1920 x 1200 resolution and 216 PPI. I am so happy to find it uses of full HD panel instead of HD one. Still, no AMOLED panel and once again it’s almost impossible since you are not going to find similar thing at other brands for 300 dollars. The IPS panel looks great here and really promise a good experience when streaming movies or browsing through the internet. The color accuracy is neat and the brightness distribution is impressively at 91 %. I have no problem at all for using it a while although comparing it to AMOLED display from Tab S4, you see a big leap here.
Moving into the camera, there is 8 MP back camera and the 5 MP front facing camera. If you love to rarely taking of photo during some cases, I guess its camera is good enough. I have taken some couple of shots and look great. I just notice the images are bit over exposed and taking photo in low light condition is bad. Well, the case is commonly happened even in smartphone and I take it as normal matter. The same case happened to the front facing camera and should be good for doing video call on Whatsapp.

The Snapdragon 450 is basically the lower end processor of its brother, Snapdragon 625. The CPU clock is slightly lower here, but still features of 8 cores CPU inside. Running of simpler task like browsing and opening Instagram feel like a breeze. The application launched directly as soon as I hit them without any long loading time. In gaming, for most all of time users can set the graphic setting to low or medium in some games like Asphalt. PUBG mobile is playable, but make sure to adjust few settings there and there here. The 32GB storage is small, but we can expand the storage through its micro SD slot. 64GB SD card should be more than enough for saving many things.
Thanks to its 14 nm processor, the battery life is amazing here. I can have of 9 hours of usage with browsing, gaming, and streaming videos. The result might be varied depending on what kind activities you do here. Browsing and only streaming videos should offer more battery life while gaming can reduce the battery in very short time. The hardware performance and battery life are satisfying and allowing you to do many things you want.back to menu ↑
