You probably won’t be very familiar with Chuwi because this brand is just recently coming with US, but they are actually considered as quite famous mainly in Asia and Europe thanks to its affordable high quality laptops and tablets. Recently, I see they release a new tablet which very interesting because they put such a very cheap price for its specification. The Chuwi HI9 Pro features a 8 inch 2.5K display, LTE connectivity, 2GB RAM, and 32GB storage for just under 150 dollars. I always thought the new Mediapad M5 8.4 and Lenovo Tab 4 are already good enough for its current price point, but this one easily destroys both of them.
You worry about its performance, and then just throw that mind away because we have of Helio X20 processor inside with 10 CPU. Gaming or enjoying multimedia are so wonderful compared to its competitors. If you have not bought a device for your kids or looking for a steady thing in budget price, this could be the best option for you. It’s better for us to take a look inside and see how it works on us. That is what we are going to talk about on this article. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Design and Features
I really wonder how they make the design and build quality so good with its price point. The entire case is built from aluminum and covered in very black finishing. They put of red color accent toward its power buttons and making it looks really good. The chassis itself feels very slim and light at all in my opinion. It has 7.9 mm thickness and coming with 384 grams of weight. Well, 384 grams is common, but considering the material is from aluminum, I would give them my five stars here. The build quality is very decent here and it holds the pressure pretty easily even I suggest you to put it a case considering the back cover easily scratched here.
Moving into its feature, you should find a USB type-C for charging the battery and mounting your external drive like thumb drive and mouse. There is a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack in case you want listen some music. The dual SIM slot work wonderfully in calling and using the mobile data, but keep in mind not all of LTE bands are fully support here. Then, the last thing I see here is the micro SD slot for expanding storage which is important as 32GB internal storage is small enough.back to menu ↑
Wonderful Display and Camera
The biggest selling point users can expect is the display. The 8.4 inch display looks incredibly stunning with vivid images and high resolution. The panel itself is produced by JDI which is well known for its high quality panel. The 2.5 K resolution is actually not very necessary, but I notice any content coming with sharper and more detail images compared to the one with 1080p resolution. The touchscreen support is worth mentioning because it supports of multi touch pressure and featuring impressive touch sensitivity like premium devices. You won’t see a similar quality display like this case.
As for the camera, for some reasons the 5 MP front facing camera takes a better image compared to its rear 8 MP camera. I compared to the photo side by side and finding the images taken by back camera is washed at all. On the other side, the 5 MP camera captures a sharp and detail images which is usable for video chatting. I guess the manufacture notices the users will never use the rear camera really that often, but they will regularly use the front camera.

Software and Hardware
The HI9 Pro is running of latest Android 8.0 Oreo without any customizable UI. Yeah, the UI looks like a stock Android with no heavy customization. I actually prefer this kind of decision and you will also love it because the system runs very smoothly even in some heavy usages. I never notice any lag or stuttering during my usage and totally being pretty usable. I just find the OS lacks of important apps like File Manager and Gallery, but you can just install any of them from the Play Store for Free. I also notice we would never see any newer Android update because that is always the case for a budget tablet from China.
In term of hardware, The Helio X20 is beast hardware if only it does not suffer of thermal throttling. The 10 cores processor work fine for 25 to 30 minutes and then you will start the performance decreased due of hot temperature. The temperature is still in very acceptable manner, but the games you run are slowing down sometime. I have tested the PUBG mobile and it’s only playable at the lowest setting due of this issue. The result is not bad and still worth to check and test here.back to menu ↑
The Chuwi HI9 Pro easily destroys its competitors thanks to its amazing hardware and features. There is no way for us to see of 2.5 K display, 10 cores processor, and 3GB RAM for under 150 dollars but Chuwi makes it possible with such a good end result. I am not going to give any complaint toward this tablet because everything has satisfied my expectation. I recommend you to check it further and see how it works on you. However, the choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration about it. Thank you very much for reading the article and see you again next time.
