You probably feel so familiar with Amazon Fire 8 tablet because the device has been in market for years and every year it always success for getting new consumers due its affordable price and amazing performance. For under 80 dollars, you can expect of a fully working tablet with 16GB storage, 2GB RAM, and 8 inch screen. I am seeing the specification as pretty low end, but considered as good enough for just browsing, reading E-book, or streaming some videos. With its budget price, there is nothing to complaint, but we still need to go down further into it considering you get few considerations toward its cheap pricing.
Firstly, compared to its predecessor, I don’t see any great improvement at all and everything looks pretty similar in my opinion. This is so unfortunate, but keep in mind Amazon has no competitors at all this market, so they won’t need anything to do for getting the consumers. Secondly, the tablet itself is still full with bloatware and ads, however users can spend 15 dollars more if you want to get rid of this annoying ads. For further information, let’s take a look inside and see how it works on us. That is what we are going to talk about on this article. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Case and Features
Well, you might be disappointed on seeing how similar the chassis dimension and design compared to its last year model. The case itself is still built from entirely plastic and then available in four different options included the black, red, blue, and yellow one. The build quality is decent in my opinion, but it would break easily because of few drops and bumps. I recommend you to put at least a jelly case for protecting the back and the sides. Holding it with single hand, I notice the dimension and weight are similar. Its weight for 16.7 ounches and comes with 8.4 x 5.0 x 0.4 inch of dimension.
Moving into its feature, the micro USB is used for transferring the data and charging the battery. The headphone jack is placed nicely for plugging your headphone jack to listen some music while the micro SD card is useful for expanding the storage considering the 16GB storage will take much data you want. The only improvement I see far is the camera. The new 2MP camera looks better, but keep in mind never put any expectation from it as I am pretty sure you won’t want to take your selfie photo taken from this tablet and post it in internet.back to menu ↑
Display and Audio
The 8 inch panel features of similar quality and resolution so far. The 1280 x 800 resolution will take time to get used especially when you move from better device. The panel brightness is bright enough, but the screen is not fully laminated and having a gap between its touchscreen and screen. As the result, the panel is so reflective during the days. Just make sure to turn on the automatic brightness or adjusting the manual brightness to the maximum setting. The screen does not have any protection and scratch easily in my experience. Put at least of a screen protection and the problem should be solved.
As for the audio support, there are dual firing speakers which thankfully put at the bottom. Using it in tablet mode, I can hear the sounds pretty nicely, but as soon as I make it on landscape mode, I notice a reduced quality due of its position. The only solution you have is by using of a headphone for having the maximum experience on enjoying your multimedia entertainment purposes. The display and audio quality are decent, but I expect of more improvement here.

Hardware and Software
Amazon still offers the Mediatek processor as the main hardware for powering the entire system. This is the only budget processor they have now and I am having no complaint at all about it. Still, the quad core CPU is only usable for light and medium activities. Gaming or beyond will require you more powerful hardware companion. The MT 8163 processor is considered as an old hardware, so never put so high expectation toward it. With 2GB RAM, I could still run most of apps without any problem although you should notice a slightly delay during some cases due its heavy and fully bloatware OS.
Talking about the operating system, the Fire OS now runs at the top of Android 7.1 Nougat. This OS version is fall behind in term of features and update from Android Oreo, but at least it’s no longer using of Android Lollipop as its base. If you are a fan of Google application, then keep this tablet far away from you because Amazon has swapped every Google apps with its application. However, you can sideload the applications manually, but users cannot get rid the ads on its lockscreen completely. Spending the 15 dollars is the only way to get rid it.back to menu ↑
The Fire 8 HD 2018 shows of lack of improvement in many parts and probably delivers the similar hardware you see last year. The only improvement noticeable is probably the newer operating system and a slightly better camera. I personally expect of performance improvement, but I guess the thing is impossible considering how affordable the price is. If you previously have the previous model, then I never suggest you to buy the 2018 model. If you seek for another option, then the Chuwi HI9 Pro is a good option. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration about it. Thank you very much for reading the article and mind leaving some comments for further assistance regarding the article.
