Huawei released another model or easily called as the enhance version of their Mediapad M5 10 inch series which now called as Huawei Mediapad M5 10.8 Pro. This new device basically features the same design and good things, but coming with some improvement in hardware. The first thing you should notice is located on the storage and RAM. It’s no longer featured of 32GB storage and 3GB RAM, but instead coming with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. The performance sector is also improved, the Kirin 960 is slightly powerful and capable of running newer and demanding games included of Asphalt and PUBG mobile.
With the 100 dollars price different, many users would easily find this version as better especially considering that get a bigger storage and memory without needed to spend extra money for buying a micro SD card. That is the most important feature that users want into their device. For the extra support, Huawei also includes of their stylus pen as the bonus and might helping you for taking note and making a draw in your spare time. Let’s take a look inside and see how it works on us. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Case and Looks
In term of design, I am not seeing any difference compared to its basic model. The dimension, weight, and design approach are pretty similar. I tried to put both of them side by side and nothing so difference to see here. The chassis is created from aluminum for the back cover and fully protected by Gorilla Glass screen for the front panel. The build quality is nice and sturdy although you might not able to compare it with Galaxy Tab S4 which having more than 300 dollars price extra. But, the tablet itself is comfortable to hold even with single hand. The side’s bezel and back surface provide a nice grip into your hands.
As for matter of weight and size, its weight for almost 500 grams and is featuring of 7.3 mm thickness. No surprising thing found and the weight is slightly heavy in my opinion. Moving into its features, I notice a 13 MP camera on the back and having of a 8 MP front camera for taking some selfie photos. The micro SD card reader slot is included if you think the default setting is small enough to your needs. The fingerprint reader is placed on the front at the bottom of its panel. It works wonderfully fast for opening the lockscreen as soon as you put your finger.back to menu ↑
Display and Camera
One of the bestselling points to find here is located on the display. The 10.8 inch display features of 2K or 2560 x 1600 resolution with solid viewing angle thanks to its IPS panel. The screen has fairly bright brightness support and offering crisp and impressive images. Unfortunately, we are not seeing of an AMOLED panel here, but keep in mind AMOLED panel is considered as expensive and impossible to put for under 500 dollars. However, the current panel is not bad and should be a good companion for couple of years until you find a good replacement for it.
As for taking the picture, you are offered with either of 13 MP back and 8 MP front cameras. Interestingly, both of them come with 2.2 apertures for some reasons even though I have no complaint about it at all. The camera itself fully supports of RAW images, 4K resolution recording, and even Pro mode. The images taken are nice although the low light photo needs some adjustment in order to get the best result. This camera can be a good replacement when you need to catch some moments without too much depending everything into your smartphone.

Hardware and Software
The Kirin 960 processor is a slightly more powerful version of the current Kirin 960S equipped in the basic model of this tablet. The 960 features a slightly higher CPU clock at this case, but unfortunately it still uses the similar Mali G71 integrated card which means the performance in gaming is relatively similar here. As just for browsing and running some stuff, I have no problem at all especially with 4GB RAM, I can just open as many apps as I want without needed to force restarted the old apps running in the background. Sadly, Fortnite is not yet supported on this hardware, but PUBG running pretty good here.
Huawei equips the system with latest Android 8.0 Oreo version with EMUI customization UI interface. I notice a security update pop up as soon as I connect it to the internet which considered as nice here. For some reasons, the EMUI takes a lot of space here because they add many bloatware inside. There are some annoying apps and stuff inside and I always suggest you to remove some of them because they are basically useless. The manufacture promises of a future update, so let’s hope it’s coming soon than we think.back to menu ↑
The Mediapad M5 Pro is a good option if you want to spend little more money from your pocket. It costs nearly for 500 dollars and comparable to the iPad 6th Gen 2018 released by Apple. Both of them feature a similar features and hardware although I can easily say iPad is slightly better in term of software update while we get a more freedom to anything on Android. As long as you don’t with the price, I have no reason at all to not recommend this gadget for you. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration about it.
