The 11 inch and 12.9 inch iPad Pro are just refreshed by Apple and now it comes with more fresh rounded design, bezel-less display, and the new Bionic A 12X processor. This year, they take the upgrade pretty seriously despite tablet is not being so popular anymore. I guess they do it intentionally for keeping their based users for keeping buying the iPad. I guess this idea would work or not depending on how the market accepts it and how much price they charge for it. Fortunately, the market receives it pretty well, but many users are unhappy with its price range. They raise the price slightly higher as the result of few improvements made here.
The 64GB model with the 4GB RAM which considered as the cheapest model cost for nearly 1000 dollars while the 256GB with LTE connectivity cost for more than 1200 dollars. This is sure a big leap over the previous generation where the base model only cost for 700 to 800 dollars. Do you think the raising price is worth for this case? Well, let’s take a look inside and see how it works on us. That is what we are going to talk about here. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Case and Looks
Both of new iPad this time feature a more rounded look design compared to its predecessor. I really love of this decision because it looks more modern especially when seeing how small the bezel is. They reduce the bezel into much smaller size, but still leaving good amount of them for allowing us to carry it nicely. Some manufactures like Samsung and Huawei are doing the same thing earlier this year. In term of weight and dimension, I don’t see much difference although its weight is slimmer and thinner. You can notice the case is slightly thinner, but only difference in 0.5 mm.
One thing I don’t really like here is the camera design. Apple makes the camera slightly higher than the rest of its back panel and making it cannot lay on the surface completely here. I also afraid putting it on the rough surface will scratch the camera lens although Apple claims the glass is made from sapphire and won’t get scratched easily. As matter of build quality, the case looks rough and durable in my opinion. The same goes to its surface where it’s comfortable and smooth to hold with our hands. The build is pretty expected from such an expensive device.back to menu ↑
Connectivity and Display
For some reasons, Apple removes its lightning port and swaps it with just a normal USB type-C port. Well, this is a good sign that Apple still listening to its consumers. Now we are no longer need to buy their original cable which costs a lot of money and instead just buying some cables from outside. In much better way, this port supports of external media output and allowing you to connect it to bigger monitor. Unfortunately, the port still cannot recognize external storage pretty easily. I can plug my thumb drive, but plugging the external HDD is impossible as it’s failed to recognize it. It’s such a bad point, but people won’t buy the 1TB model if they allow this happened.
As for the display quality, the 12.9 inch display features of 2732 x 2048 resolution and coming with 3:2 ratio. The screen looks perfect in both of horizontal and vertical modes especially with its nice 265 PPI density. Here, I have no problem at all in term of screen quality. Compared to Surface 6 2018, this screen looks better in my opinion. The only competitor it has now is basically the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 that features a pretty nice AMOLED panel.

Performance and Battery
The new Bionic A12X CPU is a no joke as it easily outperforms the Snapdragon 835 pretty easily in both of CPU and GPU performance. I run the benchmark test and the result is pretty great. This is far the fastest ARM CPU users can afford in 2018. You are going to have no problem in performance as everything runs pretty fast and snappy. Gaming purpose is also good as I tested couple of demanding games included the PUBG Mobile and Fortnite. Both of these games are playable in highest setting with no problem with smooth framerate during the gameplay. The hardware is never being a problem for iPad for a long time, but its software should be better here.
The A12X processor sports of 7 nm manufacturing process and no wonder the power consumption is pretty low. Apple has beat Intel at this case as they still stick with 14 nm processor while Qualcomm goes with 10 nm. In matter of battery life, for most all of time it runs for 11 to 14 hours in my daily usage. As for gaming, the result is varied but never goes lower than 7 hours. The performance and battery are really balance and that is a good sign here.back to menu ↑
The iPad 12.9 2018 once again positions itself as one of the best and most powerful tablets to afford this year. Apple completely re-improves everything started from the design to its hardware. Unfortunately, its price point is slightly too overboard and its software support is still worse like before. Many users expect the IOS OS will come with more features like mouse pointer support and Windows like features for allowing them to completely use it as the laptop replacement. This is a good multimedia device, but cannot be used as a laptop replacement. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration about it. Thank you very much for reading the article and see you again next time.
