The ASUS TUF FX705 is a pretty reasonable 17 inch gaming device which won’t cost you a lot of money, but will provide some decent gaming performance into your days. It costs less than 1200 dollars and you should have a device with configuration of Core I7 8th generation processor a 1060 graphic card. The specs then accompanied by 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. Like I said before, the price sounds very reasonable for its current hardware. I am seeing this one as a decent option for users expect something affordable and carry of performance.
The build quality and the design should never become the selling point here, but I have played a lot of games here and all of them run in exact manner like I expect. The 17 inch display still features of 60 Hz refresh rate display, but seem to be more than enough for some daily gaming. I got chance to review one of this system and I am going to show you of my impression. Let’s take a look inside and see how it works on us. That is what we are going to talk about on this article. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Design and Connectivity
Like it’s the 15 inch model the FX504, you should not expect of a fully made aluminum chassis and ASUS instead of adding a mixed between plastic and aluminum material. The base area itself is built from plastic, but thankfully they put of nice brushed finishing which covers of this material. As for the lid, I find a nice and more lid cover. The metal lid looks pretty premium than its base cover and feels strong enough in my opinion here. ASUS has completely refreshed of its entire gaming series with much slimmer bezel and lighter the design and they do the same thing with this machine. The 2.75 kg of weight is quite in the middle, but feels light enough to carry around.
In term of design, I can really say much about it because they try to make it more premium, but end up with to be really plain in my opinion. But, it does not look too geeky at all and means using it in some public area will never make you being source of people attention. I just hope the build quality should be much better in case the keyboard base warped pretty easily. As for the connectivity, I am surprised of not finding any USB type-C and instead they pick of three USB type-A which one of them is USB 2.0.back to menu ↑
Multimedia and Work Test
The manufacture uses of 17 inch IPS display manufactured by AU Optronics and it’s considered as a decent display despite being of 60 Hz display. I guess it’s just impossible to expect of 144 Hz 17 inch screen at this price point and its truly true here. In term of quality, the panel manages to produce of 89 % SRGB and can produce good amount of crisp and accurate images. The panel has been calibrated out of the box, but I know some users will want to calibrate it more for more accurate result. The only problem which worth mentioning here is the brightness, the 228 nits is too dim for 2018 standard. It’s hard to see the thing during outdoor unless I put the brightness into the maximum.
As for the work test, we get a similar layout keyboard like the ASUS GL504 Scar Edition. In this case, the layout and keys placement look similar although the feedback and the typing experience feels different here. The keys feel quite tactile, but I am not sure it feels too soft or too hard as it’s measured in the middle of it. For me, the typing experience is relatively good but you should find a better keyboard at the same price range.

Hardware and Gaming Performance
The I7 8750H and GTX 1060 are currently being one of the best gaming configurations right now for the decent price. The Core I7 processor now features of six cores CPU instead of 4 and making the performance in multi thread is raised significantly. The software or activity that demands for more CPU like rendering video will get a significant boost in term of performance. It’s likely, users can expect of 20 to 30 % of performance improvement here. As for the 1060 graphic card, this GPU sits between the 1050 TI and 1070. The 1050 TI is old enough and not so being reliable while the 1070 is considered as expensive. In other hand, the 1060 is a good starter in 2018 where it will provide a decent performance and probably won’t break your bank.
The gaming performance is decent as newer games like Assassin Creed Odyssey and Shadow of the Tomb Raider can around in constant 50 FPS in the high setting. I have even played the Battlefield 5 which known for its impressive graphic and it runs stably up to 60 FPS. Some older games like CS Go and Overwatch should not be a problem considering they demand less demanding hardware requirement. Make your decision and you won’t be disappointed with this system.back to menu ↑
After being for a while with ASUS TUF FX705, I can say the only worth thing complaining is probably located on its connectivity. I think in 2018 all of laptops must have at least of single USB type-C as having this port is pretty convenient for moving and transferring data in much faster way as you know games will even take more than 40 GB. As for the rest of stuff, I have no complaint at all included the design, performance, and the display. Finding an alternative with the same quality is difficult, so make sure to consider of this one as your main option. Feel free to take any consideration about it and thank you pretty much for reading the article.
