The Acer Aspire 7 15 inch is never really considered as gaming laptop despite for having such a powerful hardware component inside. The system itself is actually placed as a multimedia notebook where the users can expect of doing all of stuff together without needed to think about the performance. Doing and running games here are possible considering it has Core I7 Coffee Lake processor and GTX 1060 GPU, but that is not what most buyers looking for here. If you look for a decent option to afford for under 1500 dollars, then this could be a good option for you to afford in the latest of 2018.
I have previously reviewed of this device for couple months ago for the much lower end variant at that time. This time, Acer refreshes the hardware with some improvement in performance, but not really having improvement in term of design. The entire chassis still looks pretty similar to what you see in Aspire 5 although the chassis feels slightly more durable. Recently, I got the chance to revisit it one more time and let’s see how it works on us. That is what we are going to talk about here. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Design and Connectivity
You are not going to notice if it has such a powerful component inside because the chassis looks like a really common traditional laptop. If you take a look at it closely, then you should a notice similarity in design with the Aspire 5 A515. Here, they basically put the same kind of design although they slightly make the chassis a bit thicker and bigger in order to provide a better cooling management to the hardware inside. The chassis itself is built from aluminum, but not fully made from aluminum. I notice of some plastic material found especially in the back cover here. The lid cover itself is created from brushed aluminum and it looks great. Sad, it leaves the fingerprint pretty easily when your hands are wet.
If you love to make some upgrades toward your system, then you should be pretty happy because they provide us maintenance cover for accessing the memory and storage. You don’t have to entirely open the back cover for accessing the component inside. This is a decent feature because we won’t know for later if you need to upgrade the memory. As for the connectivity, there are four USB ports included two USB 2.0 ports, a single USB type-C and another USB 3.0 port.back to menu ↑
Display and Input
I expect a slightly better improvement in term of display, but they put the exact similar display for this time. The 15 inch panel manages to provide a decent viewing angle to our eyes, but I clearly see the brightness is still relatively dim. I can notice the brightness is above 300 nits and sometimes makes it hard to see during the days. The color accuracy itself is relatively decent with 80 % of SRGB color. Keep in mind, they should put the much lower quality display in the base model, so better to consider yourself seeing everything here. For gaming and multimedia usage, I think the display is okay. Just never ever mention about professional usage like photo editing here.
As for the input, the keyboard is considered as decent companion here. It has of numpad keys alongside with the full size keys layout. I personally find the keyboard as comfortable to use for long term usage although I fell the feedback should be much better here. The backlit support is featured, but you should never expect of RGB lightning like you see in many gaming notebooks. The customization is only limited to how bright the keys in some modes.

Hardware and Gaming Performance
The hardware configuration inside is being a typical of under 1500 dollars system and you should find of Intel Core I7 8750H processor and 1060 graphic card. In matter of performance, I think users should never have any worry especially in the CPU performance because you have of 6 cores CPU operated in 2.2 GHz clock. I can do render of my video much faster than before thanks to the additional of 2 clocks. The previous I7 processor only has of 4 cores CPU, but Intel finally making it 6 now. Acer also provides the I5 model, but I recommend you to take the I7 if you look for decent experience in multi-tasking and demanding apps like CAD and Photoshop.
Moving into the gaming performance, the 1060 GPU is sufficient enough to run most of newer games in the high setting. The ultra-setting is possible, but the framerate is not going to be really that great. I have tested couple of games included the Rocket League, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Battlefield 5. I was gaining for around 50 FPS at the high setting in Tomb Raider while the Rocket League and Battlefield show a better result up to 60 FPS at the same setting. The performance in gaming is truly decent and can be a good consideration for having it here.back to menu ↑
Acer once again does not disappoint us to provide a good option in relatively cheap price. The Aspire 7 features almost everything of users are looking for. The performance is great, the display is top notch, and the battery life is decent. Unfortunately, its price is pretty similar to Helios 300 15 2018 which features much better hardware here. If you really look for a gaming device, then I recommend you to take the Helios 300, but if you want something easier to carry around and use in public place without becoming the source of attention, this would be a better choice. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration about it. Thank you very much for reading the article and see you again next time.
