Gigabyte is probably well known among the gamers for its graphic card and some PC hardware components. For these couple of years, they have started to make of laptops and it looks decent in term of hardware and price. All of their products are being typical of them where they try to provide the same quality component in much lower price. Today, I am going to take a look into another model of Aero 15X the 2018 model. Last time, I reviewed its 1070 model and basically pretty impressed for its performance. Unfortunately, its price is quite expensive and not all of users do need the performance that much.
They manufacture actually has the cheaper model equipped with the same display, same build quality, and even similar ports connectivity. They only reduce the GPU from the 1070 to the 1060. Well, the 1060 is not pretty bad considering users can still editing some stuff in CAD and running games without any problem. If you are in tight budget, then you should take a look into this one. Let’s see how it works for satisfying our needs. That is what we are going to talk about here. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Case and Looks
Compared to the Aorus series where the chassis looks thick and feels incredibly heavy, Gigabyte makes the Aero chassis looks slightly fancy and sophisticated here. It’s really considered as more compact now considering the chassis only weight for around 4.5 pounds and measured at 14 x 9.8 x 0.7 inches. I consider the weight and dimension are decent to carry around and pretty much comparable to ROG Zephyrus S and Razer Blade 15 in these both cases. The entire chassis is built from aluminum and I am not seeing a big gap surrounded of it and the build quality is really decent in my opinion.
Unfortunately, the manufacture decides to go with single color option this time and the fun and colorful finishing are no longer featured. I guess people don’t really like about it and they just go with the most requested option which is black here. Moving into the inside, you should see an RGB keyboard with cool backlighting, a bezel-less display with the webcam camera fits under the display and some nice ports included of Thunderbolt 3 featured here. I have not seen any different in chassis and everything compared to its higher end model.back to menu ↑
Incredible Display, but Yet Bad Audio
Its 15 inch display looks like what the premium notebook supposed to be. The IPS panel can deliver of decent viewing angle and nearly accurate images to any content I see here. The thing is getting better as I see it’s actually a 144 Hz panel and means should provide a sufficient gaming experience thanks to its faster refresh rate. With the nearly 100 % SRGB color accuracy, I never worry to use it for photo editing because the panel looks great here. Sadly, the brightness is below average in my opinion here. People will find the 266 nits as quite dim moreover the newest laptops nowadays started to ship with at least 285 nits display.
In the other side, I don’t see the same quality found on its audio. The speakers sound pretty quiet because I cannot feel its base does not sound punchy at all. Putting it into the maximum volume won’t solve the problem as its hardware matter. I have tried to play with the equalizer, but sadly they don’t provide us any software for adjusting the sounds quality. Here, you are either needed to install of the equalizer manually or having the music player with manual adjustment support. This can be a troublesome for the audiophile.

Hardware Performance and Battery
In the lower end model, they still decide to go with Core I7 8750H even though they make the graphic card is slightly less powerful with the 1060. I think they can make the price a much lower if they put the Core I5 8300H processor, but I guess the users won’t really like it much because what they are looking is probably the great performance in CPU because apps like CAD or rendering video will demand more CPU to make the jobs done faster. With just four cores CPU in the I5 processor, it should make your job done less fast and I think people won’t like it. You are not going to find any problem in term of performance here.
As for the battery, I see of improvement in battery and now it easily last for nearly 7 hours compared to what 6 hours I previously got here. The 1060 is basically less demanding in power consumption and means the battery life should be better. Keep in mind, they disable the G-Sync support for making the battery is much better here. It won’t affect the gaming performance, but it’s worth mentioning here. The GPU will switch to Intel HD in light tasks while having the discrete GPU works in more demanding usage.back to menu ↑
The Aero 15X 2018 is doing some expectation for many users where they expect of portable, long last battery life, and strong performance laptop. The Aero has that everything in the single package. What good thing Gigabyte has made here is making the price so competitive among its competitors. Here, both of ASUS and Razer place their products in higher end price and can make people switch over this system. Make sure to consider of this laptop as your main consideration. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration about it.
