Dell Vostro 15 5000 is a laptop which specifically made for business users. The manufacture this time targets of a small companies which need to afford of good machine for their workers, but having of limited budget in mind. This notebook itself is started for under 800 dollars and featuring of some decent hardware configuration inside. It has of Intel I5 processor from 7th generation combined with 8GB RAM and 1TB HDD. The 15 inch display also features a completely FHD resolution and should be good even for streaming movies and enjoying multimedia usage.
By seeing of everything for a while, I am sure there is not really something wrong about it. But, I should say the Vostro is far from being a perfect device considering its battery life is relatively bad and the build quality needs of an improvement here. The performance also needs an improvement as the manufacture started to ship their system with 8th generation CPU. Let’s take a look inside and see how it works for satisfying our needs. That is what we are going to talk about on this article. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Case and Connectivity
The overall look of its design is something that Dell should proud of here. The chassis looks impressive in dark finishing and reminds of me expensive laptops which sit in 1000 dollars price point. I am also impressed when opening the lid, the subtle pattern inside are pretty polished and adding a good detail to the rest of design. The keyboard deck is completely made in also black, but thankfully the keyboard features of backlit support and means they won’t mix blandly to the rest of design. Overall, the design impression is impressive although I am going to talk about its build quality next.
The entire chassis here is built from plastic and should be pretty common for the device in this price range. The stability is relatively bad as its supported by two great feet. Unfortunately, the lid cover and keyboard deck are quite bad here. The keyboard warped while the lid cover twisted easily by pressing or twisting it with some amount of power. Thankfully, the display won’t wobble at all during the typing and never destroy our experience in working. As for the connectivity, there are only couple USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports with no USB type-C featuring here.back to menu ↑
Work and Multimedia Usages
Similarly like other manufactures, Dell offers of display in two different configurations. The lower model is equipped with TN panel and HD resolution while the higher model will be equipped with the same TN panel, but with 1080p resolution. In term of quality, the panel is considered as mediocre as the color coverage and brightness are standard. The panel only manages to cover of 65 % SRGB color and getting of under 250 nits of brightness support. Overall, the panel looks better than what its competitors promise. Most of manufactures will only offer of HD TN panel display at this price tag.
As for working, your work should be depended on its chiclet keyboard. The keyboard features of numpad keys alongside its QWERTY keys. The travels distant between keys are good and all of keys appeared in normal size. However, the numpad keys are smaller in this case considering the chassis is relatively small. The typing experience is decent, but I should mention the keys should have better resistance and feedback. The backlit support is there, but only has single way to turning it on and off. There is no backlit level configuration is available here.

Performance and Battery
The Intel Core I5 7200U is a decent processor, but still weaker than the 8th generation CPU because it still has dual core CPU instead of quad core. The dual core CPU clocked between 2.5 GHz to 3.1 GHz and fully supported by Hyper Threading feature at once. The 14 nm manufacturing processor has completely reduced the power consumption to pretty minimal. As the result, the processor can produce less heat and making the performance completely more stable at higher clock. Sadly, like I said before the I5 8250U is much faster. The ASUS F510UA and F530UA offer a better hardware in the same price level.
The 40 Wh battery is quite small in my opinion. The battery should last only for maximum at 6 hours with nearly 9 hours for watching videos. Working like editing document and browsing for nonstop will likely give you around 5 and half hours here. I won’t recommend you at all to take it for travel companion considering you will need more than 5 hours of usage. Thankfully, most of everyone will use it mostly for indoor usage and they can charge it anytime they want. Fully charging the battery should take for around 2 hours.back to menu ↑
I have to say the Vostro 15 5000 is a decent option to afford in 2018. Well, not all of features are great, but the most important things like keyboard and display work like a charm here. However, users also want to consider about its battery life as it runs out pretty fast here. 5 hours is not going to make you completely finish your work in a single day and you at least need to charge it for a twice in a day. There should be a better option if you are looking for better batter life here. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration about it.
