The gaming notebook in budget market is always all about performance on the top of everything and sometimes the thing like display becomes so underrated because most of manufactures will put most of their budget on the hardware specs. I find this case as pretty normal considering that it’s impossible for them to make everything good in relatively cheap price, but recently MSI released the GF63 and it looks pretty interesting and might change slightly your opinion about gaming in budget. The device features of decent hardware configuration and coming with sleek and thin chassis.
The chassis is now comparable with their high end product, the MSI GS65 series although they slightly reduce the material quality. If you look for something not only great inside, but also making you proud outside then you might need to take a look into this one. It costs only for under 900 dollars and considerable as decent considering you have of Intel 8th generation processor and GTX 1050 TI graphic card inside. Let’s take a look inside and see how it works for satisfying our needs. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Case and Looks
As soon as you get your hands on it, then you should easily notice the chassis looks so similar to MSI GS65 included the color scheme and its overall looking. All of chassis covered with black and red surface and feels very great compared to its competitors which sit at the same price point here. It seems that MSI makes the design appeared as more worthy and the hardware located on the inside. One good thing that makes this system appeared to be different than the Stealth Thin is found on the color scheme. You can see there is no gold accent at all and they just focus on both of black and red color accents.
As for the build quality, the chassis is mostly made from plastic and feels quite durable in my opinion. The keyboard deck feels incredibly sturdy while the lid cover is slightly weak, but okay. By having all of hardware inside and its 15 inch display, the notebook is just weight for around 4.1 pounds and making it considerably as the thinnest and lightest among its competitors. You should see like Acer Nitro 5 and ASUS TUF 504 are heavier for this case. If you think of design as most important thing besides than the performance, then you might need to take a look into this one.back to menu ↑
Connectivity and Hardware Maintenance
MSI is kindly enough for giving us quite overwhelming port connectivity despite of its price point. We have of total four USB ports included of three USB 3.0 ports and a single USB type-C port. These ports then accompanied by HDMI, mini display port, micro SD card reader, 3.5 mm audio jack, and Ethernet port. No Thunderbolt 3 port, but the thing is common and won’t make you disappoint at all. I just hope the ports placement are slightly balance because they put almost all ports on the right side and leaves the left side completely empty.
Having of upgrade is given you a lot of possibility here although they don’t us a maintenance cover and means buying the entire back cover is a must. Unfortunately, MSI puts of a warranty seal at one of its screws and can void the warranty if you don’t take it as carefully. Keep in mind, the warranty should be fine even when the seal is broken if the users just upgrade the RAM and the storage. Just be careful not to do anything more or you will get a problem here. Once you get inside, you are given the chassis to dual storage and other two SODIMM slots. The WIFI card is removable, but its already fast enough in my opinion.

Performance and Battery
There are two configurations included in term of hardware. We will see the one equipped either with Core I5 and Core I7 processors. Both of them will still carry the same GTX 1050 TI and means you just only need to pick between these two processors. I see a 100 to 200 dollars price difference, so pick very carefully considering you can do more with the 200 dollars. Adding bigger RAM or storage is possible with that amount of money. In term of performance, the I5 8300H does its job pretty well for having running games and doing multi-tasking work. It’s a quad core processor and should offer decent performance similarly like the I7 7700HQ we see last year. The same case found for the GTX 1050 TI, it’s a quite high end processor and will let you running games in medium or high setting at 1080p.
The battery is never being a selling for a gaming laptop and this case is actually really true. You can expect of 4 to 5 hours of battery usage with its 51 Wh battery in real life situation. Running games in high setting or rendering 1080p video will often give the battery less than we expect, but I never find it as a problem since I am using it for most all of time for indoor usage and just rarely outdoor. I could just plug the charger and making it fully charged in no time.back to menu ↑
I guess MSI has done something unique, but in good way with the GF63 15 inch. The device features not only a good looking design, but also coming alongside relatively powerful hardware inside. We also don’t forget about its cheap price which makes it as very worthy to take a look in 2018. It’s almost impossible to find a good competitor especially when you compare the design here. If you have not got a chance to spend your money, then I recommend you to see this laptop as your top option here. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration about it. Thank you very much for reading the article and see you again next time.
