HP Elitebook 735 G5 (Ryzen 7 2700U, 8GB) 13 Inch Laptop Review

At the beginning of 2018, HP recently announced the refresh version for their business laptops powered by AMD processors. The 5th generation series is now featuring of AMD Ryzen processor which promises of more performance in both of CPU and GPU. Compared to its predecessor, The CPU now manages to get close with Intel mobile generation CPU pretty easily despite Intel is still winning over this case. But, with its cheaper price and better performance in term of GPU, many users will look over this laptop considering of those cases. Like you probably know, not all of users want to spend that much for buying a device and there are lot of them will go over the more affordable rather than the premium one.

Today, I have got the chance to review the more expensive version for the HP Elitebook 735 G5. Couple months ago, I have reviewed the same laptop with Ryzen 5 2500U CPU and decided to go over its much expensive model this time. At that time, the performance is great but I am sure many people will expect more from it. Let’s take a look at it further and see how it works on us. That is what we are going to talk about there. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.

Case and Looks

Elitebook is pretty well known for its premium and high quality design. The case is not changed at all as HP is basically adding the similar chassis like its Intel version. The entire case is made from solid aluminum which then covered with silver finishing. In my opinion, the design looks modern and premium at the same time and people won’t find it as same at all to carry it around and showing to your friends. Almost all of the parts from it are made from aluminum for except the surrounded border around the display. Yeah, the border is designed from plastic and makes it less premium for some reasons. It’s a minor thing, but worth mentioning here.

In manner of build quality, the thing is nearly excellent with just some minor parts that I will talk about here. Both of stability and durability are impressive, but I found that the surface material is easily scratched and I really recommend you to put it nicely into your back especially when you have so many things inside. After a while, I see some minor scratches on the top of its lid and might bother some users that end up with the same case. Just make sure to give it a better treat and you won’t find a similar case.

Hardware Configuration and Maintenance

HP Elitebook 735 G5 2 Similar like the Intel mode, HP provides few different hardware specifications to pick. The base mode started with Ryzen 5 CPU which costs less than you expect. For a budget user who does not really need a truly powerful performance should pick of this model As for more powerful approach, the higher end unit is equipped by Ryzen 7 CPU and should offer more performance as return for its price. The rest of things like connectivity, display, and design are similar and what makes it different is basically only located on the hardware inside which powering the system.

If you decide to go with small RAM and SSD capacity, you are probably quite be lucky because HP provides of good hardware maintaining inside. All of screws on the back cover could be removed easily and once you get inside, users will find a good way for upgrading the component inside. Here, both of RAM and storage are replaceable as long as you want to replace it. Unfortunately, it only has of single slot and means you can just swap, but cannot add more of them. The WIFI card is also removable for this case, but I never find replacing it as very useful considering they already put a decent card there.

Performance and Battery

The Ryzen 2700U CPU will promise you a smooth performance and incredibly experience for finishing and doing all kinds of your work. It has of four cores CPU clocked between 2.2 GHz to 3.8 GHz and manages to handle 8 works at the same time thanks to its hyper threading support. In term of performance, the processor is left behind compared to Intel 8th generation processor, but the overall power it promises is not bad at all especially after seeing how powerful the GPU is. The Radeon Vega 10 graphic is much powerful than Intel HD and only sits behind than 150MX graphic card. Still, you can run of Overwatch and Fortnite in very playable gameplay at 1080p setting.

One thing worth mentioning which you want to consider is probably the battery life. Yeah, the battery will only last for maximum 5 to 6 hours in single and won’t go better even after how many times I have tried to reduce the brightness and putting the Windows 10 in Power Saving Mode. The power consumption is just big and the battery packed inside is relatively small. Well, this device is always meant for home and office usage and means you should have no problem for always carrying its charger around.

Final Thought

The Elitebook 735 G5 13 inch is an attractive and solid laptop for home and office environmental purposes. Its performance is impressive although the battery is just left behind at this matter. Despite for having of small and relatively thin chassis, the battery will holding you away for carrying it around as it only lasts for 5 and 6 hours. I never recommend you to take it for travel usage and you are going to find a much better recommendation for this kind of usage. Just make sure to consider everything before you decide to have it. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration about it. Thank very much for reading the article and see you again next time.
