The Acer Travelmate Spin B1 was introduced as the portable laptop which specifically meant for educational sector. For these couple of years, educational market is always dominated by either of Chromebook from Google or iPad from Apple. Both of these systems promise of good specification while carrying of decent price which makes it so interested by so many people. At the same time, we also have of budget Windows device which sadly cannot be considered as the main players for this market because they cannot promise the same quality as of Apple and Google do here.
The Spin B1 right here can be a good chance for Microsoft and Acer to outshine its competitors by providing a decent portable system with relatively cheap price. Its features of 11 inch screen 1080p display which accompanied by Intel quad core Celeron processor inside. The specification is pretty decent for an under 500 dollars system. We have of other good competitors like Dell Latitude 3180, so let’s see how it’s comparable between its competitors. Let’s take a look at it further and see how it works on us. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Design and Connectivity
In order to make the build quality is slightly better here, Acer needs to make the chassis a bit or much thicker for this reason and it might not look pretty great, but you can expect more from its build. The entire chassis itself is built from roughened plastic and then covered with black finishing. The design is pretty robust here and giving it some pressure won’t make the chassis warped at all. As for sacrifice, I cannot say the weight as fairly portable because it’s weight for around 3.4 pounds and considered as quite heavy for such an 11 inch machine. You might love or hate its design based on your preference.
One better thing to expect here is basically located on its hinge system. It features of 360 degree rotating system which allowing you to adjust the screen to any position you want. The hinge looks and feels durable and I think we won’t have any problem for long term usage here. As for the connectivity, no USB type-C which is a huge bummer for everyone and it only has of two USB type-A ports and one of them is USB 2.0. People would love to see much faster connectivity considering USB type-A is already so common nowadays.back to menu ↑
Display and Input
The Travelmate comes with 11 inch display and luckily they put of IPS panel instead of TN panel. The thing is even better as I notice it has of 1920 x 1080p resolution that looks so impressive here. In term of quality, the panel is very average, but still promising a relatively good quality for the price. The screen brightness is measured for around 290 nits and looks bright enough for outdoor usage, but I will say the panel is so reflective because they decided to go with glossy instead of matte surface. As for the color accuracy, the color looks accurate and probably will offer a decent experience on streaming movies.
I expect more from its keyboard because they target of students which sure are going to use the keyboard a lot here. Unfortunately, the keyboard is just fall off because of its some problems. The keyboard first of all features a Chiclet style and having great roughened keys. Sadly, the typing experience is mediocre because the actuation force is just bad. Users who need a steady and comfortable machine for typing in long term usage would find this keyboard as hard to recommend because you should have a rough time with it.

Performance and Battery
The performance is considered as wise with Intel Celeron N3450 processor, 4GB RAM, and 128GB SSD. The hardware combined nicely here and should offer the performance you demand more. The N3450 comes with quad core CPU clocked between 1.1 to 2.5 GHz and coming with no fan support inside because the power consumption is relatively low. Running of light works like editing document and browsing through the internet won’t pose any problem, I won’t suggest you to have it for more demanding usage because the hardware itself is pretty much low end here.
Another thing which seems to be fall off here is the battery life. The 48 Wh battery only lasts for maximum at 6 hours and its bad for users who want to stay working for their daily usage. Some of you will probably spend more than 5 hours for attending your school and finishing your project. With just 6 hours of battery, we are forced to always bring its charger around anytime you need for more juice. Acer should fix of this great issue by fitting bigger battery because people would be really disappointed with this matter since all of their work are depended on this feature.back to menu ↑
Acer has made few things done right in Travelmate Spin B1 especially after seeing how durable the chassis and decent the performance is. Unfortunately, it also has few major things which need of improvement especially in keyboard and battery life. The keyboard just feels so mediocre and the battery life is quite bad. Some users will take of this matter as pretty seriously although we already have of good display and impressive performance here. Just make sure to consider of everything and see how it works on you. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration about it. Make sure to check our latest article and mind leaving some comments for further assistance regarding the article.
