ASUS Zenbook UX410UA AS74 Review – A Mid-Range Excellent Laptop

The ASUS Zenbook UX410UA is a good example of modern laptop where the company is able to put of bigger screen into such a compact and small chassis. For this case, Asus manages to put of 14 inch panel into a 13 inch chassis. The system is not considered as the lightest laptop available right now, but it has so much power on the inside. The device is powered by Intel Core I7 8th gen that combined together with 8GB RAM. Those great things come with only under 900 dollars and I think one of the nice deals to have here.

There are however few nits and problems that you might consider about it. The storage is probably the biggest issue here. The 1TB storage is big enough for storing everything, but it’s still much slower than SSD and might slow down of your productivity. You are going to find further information for this issue on this article. That is what we are going to talk about here. We are going to jump further and see how it works on us. To make it easier for you to understand, let’s we jump into the article.

Slim and Compact Design

For taking care of their new product, ASUS tried to put of their 13 inch Zenbook design and put it on put of 14 inch screen. They did similar case with UX430 and it works great in term of portability and builds quality. The end result is one of the most interested things to see here. The system is only weight for around 3.1 pounds with dimension at 12.7 x 8.8 x 0.7 inches. The weight and dimension are not too far away in comparable with Dell XPS 13 and it looks so impressive especially considering that it brings bigger panel on the inside.

The all-around chassis is created from aluminum and plastic construction. It’s not a unibody aluminum design like we find on Macbook Pro and that is why we still could see of its inner frame that made from plastic. They do it intentionally basically for cutting the price and I do not mind with it. Although the frame is made from plastic, the body feels solid and durable. The thing will never feel as tough as Macbook, but does not poorly build. I think this might be a good reason for you on taking of this system as your primary device.

Display And Keyboard

ASUS Zenbook UX410UA 2 The 14 inch display is featured of 1920 x 1080 resolution that looks incredibly crisp and bright. The IPS panel is used here and the viewing angle is so wide here even when we seeing it from different directions. I made a further check it and found that the screen could produce of 72 percent of NTSC color. With that amount of score, the color accuracy is so well damn good here. I never find any color is too washed or overly saturated. The brightness is totally bright with 300 nits and you would never find any issue for outdoor usage. One thing that love here is the bezel surrounded the display. It’s so thick and what they called as Infinity display is probably true here.

Bigger display means of better keyboard. I think that is the right word that I can say from this laptop. The keyboard features of familiar layout and feels comfortable for long usage. The keys have 1.6 mm travel distant and having slightly longer stroke than most of similar products. As the result, the feedback and resistance are increased here. I manage to type for more than 85 words per minute with error rate for around 2 percent. With that result, I am finally sure that this is a good device for supporting our daily work.

Performance and Temperature

Similar like mid end laptops, ASUS is also featuring of Intel new gen processor. For this case, they bring of Intel Core I7 8550U which is coming from 8th gen Coffee Lake variant. The processor has 1.8 GHz clock rate on its four cores CPU. The clock rate is slightly lower than last version, but it does not mean the performance is slower here. The CPU is able to pass the Kaby Lake 7th gen processor in both of multi-thread and single thread performance. I run of few multi-tasking and demanding tasks and all of them run very smoothly here without any lag. I never notice any dip on performance and so dependable for every day usage.

I run the system for entire day and found out the temperature is not an issue here. I am so surprised that it has only single fan here, but they do a really good job on making a well-ventilated chassis. The system gets hot pretty easily on demanding activities, but the system will automatically cool it down by boasting its fan speed. For a better usage, there is an application called as NoteBookFanControl that let you control the fan speed and it works so fine here on keeping the temperature.
