Lenovo Miix 720 is a nice combination between tablet and laptop similarly like we got on Surface Pro. These two devices are pretty much similar especially in term of features and hardware. Both of them featuring of detachable design that let you use it on tablet mode online for easier purpose or connecting it to the keyboard deck for adding more productivity in the system. The device is basically a tablet that fits of Windows 10 as the main operating system and having of a keyboard dock as its accessories. We actually never have any similar thing like this one before because we never think it will be that popular until Microsoft announced it for the first time.
This system could easily outsmart of Surface in term of everything including the performance, cheaper price, and brighter display which only the battery life is shorter here. By seeing this review you might change your mind on taking this device rather than picking of Surface. I think it’s better for us to take look inside and how they are comparable. That is what we are going to talk about here. To make it easier for you to conclude, let’s we jump into the article.
Design and Features
Lenovo is basically taking some notable design from Microsoft and makes few worth changes. The chassis is created from magnesium alloy that combined with fiber hybrid material. For this review, I got the black version and it looks pretty great. The black paint finishing is so sparkly and finds it similar like they did on Thinkpad. Holding the tablet on both of your hands feel comfortable and sturdy, there is no flex or crackling when I am giving some twist on it. In the back of its chassis, you soon find a single kickstand that made from single piece for holding it display during streaming mode.
The volume and physical buttons are placed at the top right side and it’s very easy to reach as the buttons are popup here. The right side also holds some connectivity ports like USB-A 3.0 and double speakers that firing of loud sounds. On the left side, you soon find USB 2.0 port, audio jack, and Thunderbolt 3 port. I find it interesting for them to fit of USB type-A here, but the Thunderbolt 3 port is a huge deal as it offers faster and more reliable transferring and moving process. We get total of three USB ports and I never find any issue here.back to menu ↑
Display and Additional Keyboard
Here we are on one of the biggest selling point here. The 12 inch display is equipped with 2880 x 1920 resolution in 3:2 ratio which is perfect for a tablet. The resolution that it has here is higher than Surface and because of this case it shows clearer and better images thanks to the resolution. Testing it with Colorimeter, reveal that the screen can produce of 97 percent of SRGB color or 75 percent in Adobe testing. My only complaint is located on its brightness that looks dim even at the maximum setting. They decide to put glossy finishing on the panel and this is why the reason it looks so dim and harder to see on outdoor activity.
The attachable keyboard is great in my opinion. The keyboard has similar material and finishing like its tablet and making both of them loo fancy when it’s combined. When attaching the keyboard, the weight for the unit is jump into 1.1 kg, but still pretty much easy to deal on carrying it around. Its keys do not have any long travel, but still comfortable enough to use on long typing. I do not think that typing on 12 inch machine could be this comfortable.

Performance and Software
Lenovo is equipped the system with pretty deal hardware here. The Intel Core i7 7500U processor and 8GB RAM is able to give smooth performance with no standout lag or issue. The system is able to power my entire activity with only single charge although sometimes I found out the fan is louder here. Yeah, the laptop has small fan packs on the inside to keep the temperature. It’s impossible for them to make it fan-less as Core I7 processor could produce heat so easily. Although the fan kicks louder, I never find it as annoying or getting some performance drop here because the heat producing here is not a big deal.
The only thing you have to do when you turning it on for the first time are removing some bloatware. The Windows 10 installed here is filled with bloatware that not so useful. The Miix only has 256GB SSD and removing them is a huge deal here. They have their own 25GB partition which is big enough to fit lot of things. I really recommend you completely remove it and claiming back your worthy storage. I still have no complain to say here and I think this is the way for them on getting extra money in order to make it affordable.back to menu ↑
The Miix 720 is better than Surface in every sector and easily outsmart it. With this configuration of hardware and pretty design, we only need to pay for under 1300 dollars while the Pro will force you to afford for 1500 dollars with lower hardware performance. The Surface Pro is only better on keyboard and battery life, but keep in mind that it has higher price. Just decide which one is worthy for you as the choice is always yours.
