Dell Latitude 5490 Review – The Classy Laptop Built In For Work

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a device that truly designed for work. The system is equipped with well-designed hardware with new Generation of Intel 8th gen processor, solid keyboard, and so much comfortable to offer. The keyboard and battery life are the biggest selling point here as it offers solid experience on typing and long last battery life that should last for entire day. The thing is just not suitable if you expect some great display and audio here because these two things are slightly left behind here. Many similar choices like Zenbook UX460UA or HP Envy X360 will give you better choice.

Once again, if you are looking for a steady machine that will last for entire day for finishing of your project, this machine is greatly suitable for you. As for now, let’s spend our time on checking it further and see how it works on us. That is what we are going to talk about here. We are going to talk about it further and find out how it’s worth to afford in 2018. To make it easier for you to conclude, let’s we jump into the article.

Durable and Solid Design

The Latitude 5490 is mainly built in from plastic for keyboard and carbon fiber material for its lid. The design is so minimalist, but yet feels very sturdy. I really could not find any detail here besides than the company logo itself that placed in the middle of lid. The keyboard here is designed slightly recessed here as the result of smaller chassis. The power button here sits nicely and should glow white when you turning its power. One thing that you should consider for taking this machine is the portability. The entire chassis is only weight for 3.8 pounds with 0.8 inches of thickness.

The laptop is considered as small and portable, and appeared to be only heavier than Thinkpad T470 as it has larger battery. For taking care of your productivity, you must have a well complete connectivity here. Luckily, the device features anything you need here. There are single USB 3.0 port and HDMI port placed on the right side. On the left itself, there is only SD card reader, another USB port, and USB type-C port for faster and more reliable data transfer. They really do it pretty well for this case.

Solid Keyboard, but Poor Quality Display

Dell Latitude 5490 The build quality and keyboard are the biggest selling point here as the system has received of MIL SPEC tests that making sure it’s capable of handling extreme temperature, drops, and multiple bad scenario. The same thing goes to the keyboard that feels solid and offers of great experience on typing. The 1.2 mm key travel is quite short at first, but feels comfortable as long as you get used with it. I manage to type for around 90 words per minute with very minimal error rate here. The backlit support is back here and letting you to type in much darker environment.

I put so much expectation on its display, but sadly it does not promise us with great quality here. It produces only 65 percent of SRGB color which is far from 100 percent standard. The brightness itself is having the similar case here as the 178 nits is so low. I do not really recommend you to use it for multimedia usage as the thing is not that enjoyable. Using it for working is different case here as you basically you will not need of huge detail here.

Speedy Performance

Thanks to the Intel I5 8350U, the performance is great and wise here, the Windows 10 Pro operating system runs so smoothly and reliable here. The i5 8350U is basically the overclocked version of Core I5 8250U where it has higher clock rate at 1.7 GHz. The processor manages to produce of great power, but at the same time still offers of low power consumption. This chipset is later combined with 8GB DDR4 RAM that will offer of fast multitasking on your productivity. The only place it needs upgrade here is located on its storage that feels limited here. 500GB HDD will only last for limited of time and I recommend you to put of bigger HDD or even SSD here.

If you decide to look for long last laptop, I think you are in right place here. The laptop manages to last for up to 9 hours of usage. I tested it by browsing through the internet, streaming movies, and editing document while connected to the WIFI. I set the brightness to 60 percent and that is the result I got here. The battery would last for a full day with light usage without any issue here. I think having a dim display is having an advantage here. Just think this thing as your consideration for taking it as your primary device.
