The Thinkpad and Yoga brand are always becoming the most popular devices from Lenovo. For many years these systems are always separated and they always have their own products to offer. As seeing the huge demand for a convertible system, the company has a nice idea to mix of these brands and making a something that portable, but still offers the same exact of usability as of traditional laptop. This is where we see of Lenovo Thinkpad X380 where it carries of solid hardware and comfortable keyboard from Thinkpad and mixing it with portability from Yoga. People see this case as a great idea and I should agree with it.
Lenovo has just refreshed this series for 2018 with new brand hardware. The system now has Intel Core I7 8550U processor that would be twice faster than the previous generation of processor thanks to the improvement from Intel. In term of design, you might not see something different or unusual because they decide to take old design and now just make little big slimmer and thinner. I think its worth for us to take look at further after seeing so many good things about it. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Simplistic, but Solid Design
I always feel so déjà vu on seeing Thinkpad laptop because that always has similar design for some reasons. I see a very minor improvement here except that the chassis is now slimmer and thinner than before. As soon as you unbox it for the first time, you can expect of taper design with black finishing in all over it’s around. This base is created from mixed materials where the lid is created from carbon while the deck area is designed from aluminum material. The build quality is impressive as each of them has received of MIL STD durability certificate. This is not something that will easily break with only few drops and bumps.
As for the port connectivity, you soon a find decent of ports available here. There are USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt 3 ports that should offer a decent way on transferring and moving your data. The ports placements are impressive as they manage to split it between and right and left sides comfortably to reach by our hands. There is no spacing issue although I think the Thunderbolt 3 port here is better to put slightly further here. I do not really have anything to complain here and everything is perfect if only they put a brand new design here.back to menu ↑
A Perfect Place for Multimedia and Work Purposes
For taking care of your multimedia needs, Lenovo puts of 13.3 inch screen panel with 1920 x 1080p resolution. A 1080p display is a common for nowadays, but it’s unique when you manage to transform it into multiple modes included of tent, tablet, and stand modes for doing your favorite activities. The thing is even better as I see the panel is able to produce of crisp and details images. It produces 96 percent of SRGB and that is the reason why the panel looks so gorgeous. I just hope the brightness could be better here as setting it below 90 percent will make it harder to see in outdoor.
Move into its keyboard, you should find one of the best to find here. Each key feels solid and has nice actuation pressure point. The key travel is quite bit short, but not that annoying in my opinion after testing it for entire week. The keys are just smaller for some reasons because they use a nonstandard sized keyboard here. One extra feature worth mentioning here is the backlit support. It features of two stages white and blue backlight that looks really nice during dark environment. The backlit is activated by pressing Space and FN keys.

The Best Performance to Have
The most interested thing to talk about here is the performance. For the first time in such years now we get of a ULV processor with 15 watts TDP. The Intel Core I7 8550U has 1.8 GHz base clock and support for hyper-threading. Testing it with Cinnebench, the processor is able to reach of 2.2 to 25 GHz clock rate before its throttling to the 1.7 GHz clock. It’s hard for the CPU to get of further than 3.4 GHz clock with this very minimal TDP. Luckily, the performance is still in very acceptable level. It runs everything in fast and smooth as long as you want.
The combination of Intel I7 8550U, 8GB RAM, and 256GB SSD are more than enough for doing everything you want. Both of memory and storage are upgradable here if you need more power to expect here. Both of them are located on its back cover that easy to reach by removing of some screws. The upgradable aspect is always becoming the biggest selling point for Lenovo’s product that let the users to do almost anything they want with the hardware. This can be a great consideration for taking it back home.back to menu ↑
