Few months back, ASUS has released their ROG GL703VD which is a great gaming system with portable design and powerful hardware configuration. Sadly, it lacks of choices on graphic card option and the users only stuck with single model. The company is trying to fix this case by releasing an upgrade version that coming with similar chassis, but now has 12 Hz refresh rate display and GTX 1060. The hardware level is considered as great for under 2000 dollars especially considering that now we have much smoother experience on gaming with high refresh rate display. I think its worth for us to see the improvement made in comparable with its previous generation.
In this price range, we are seeing some great competitors here like the Acer Predator 300 and Aspire V17 Nitro. Most of them coming with similar specifications, but there is one thing that ASUS wins for this case, the design. They put of lighter and thinner chassis than its competitors which is the biggest selling point for it. Let’s hope the heating and temperatures are not going to be the issue here. We are going to talk about it further on this article. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
More Premium Design
The GL703M design looks pretty solid and beauty in my opinion. At least, it’s far better than most of similar products that available in the same price range right now. The brushed aluminum lid is quietly familiar here because they take slightly copy it from their premium ROG Zephyrus. There is not much detail to see here, but they add of ROG logo that placed at the center of lid that will glow in the dark. Sadly, the lid is easily to be a fingerprint magnet although cleaning it can be done easily by swiping with any cloth. Moving into the inside, you soon find a segmented deck that has some kind of diagonal stripe design started from its top rear into the bottom right corner.
The machine is actually well constructed thanks to its premium material. The rigidity of the base is good although I find some cracking here. The same thing goes to the hinge system that holds the base strongly. You can swipe it to the 145 degrees and should provide a proper viewing angle for enjoying your games. Single hand operation is impossible to do here as the deck is comfortable to put of your left or right hand. One thing worth mentioning here is the weight. The device is weight for only 6.7 pounds with dimension at 16.5 x 11 x 1 inches.back to menu ↑
A Great Combo of Inputs and Display
The system comes with ASUS`s famous Aura RGB keyboard. It features of three level of brightness that fully customizable through the application. Users manage to set of several of effects and colors depending on their choices. As for the experience, the 2 mm key travel is not bad here and offering a fast and comfortable way for typing. The key travel is shorter than 2.5 mm and sometimes might give some mixed experience to the users that not getting used with short travel keyboard. It’s comfortably working on typing, but never expects something impressive here as more and more devices come with better keyboard.
Sure, the most interested point to talk about here is probably on display. The panel promises of smoother gameplay and animations that you never see before. The 120 Hz screen is being a standard for a gaming machine and ASUS does not want to leave behind here. In term of quality, it produces 87 percent of SRGB color and 293 nits for brightness. The color accuracy is accurate despite of its near 100 percent of SRGB color producing. This can be a good consideration for taking it than Predator 300 from Acer.

Gaming and Battery Usage
The classic hardware combination is once again used here. It combines of Intel’s powerful Core I7 7700HQ processor with NVIDIA GTX 1060 graphic card. The processor itself is clocked at 2.9 GHz with maximum clock boosted at 3.9 GHz clock. In real practice, the processor is not capable to deliver its true performance because of temperature issue. Yeah having a thinner chassis is impressive for portability, but worst in thermal aspect. Thankfully, the gaming aspect is not bad here as every game I tested here run like I expect. You would get of up to 60 FPS for FPS games with high setting and higher than 30 FPS for open world games like Final Fantasy 15 and Assassin Creed Origin,
For the battery life, I get of disappointing result here. Most all of time, I only manage to take maximum of 4 usage on my gaming. I never reach higher usage from that point for some reasons. I always end up on plugging the charger all the time because the battery is short. This is a huge problem if you have a plan to carry it over around. Sadly, ASUS is not bringing an improvement for battery sector. Just take a look into it further.back to menu ↑
The portable design and performance are the combinations that make the ASUS GL703VM looks so awesome in many of gamer. However, the battery issue and thermal issue are huge problem here on getting its maximum performance. This is the cost what we need to have in effect of slim chassis. I still recommend you to look for it despite of this issue because there is no way to find similar choices at the same price range here. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration here. Make sure on leaving any comment for further assistance regarding the article.
