The Elitebook series is a premium business laptop that provided by HP besides than its Spectre series. The Spectre series is more focus on portability while the Elitebook is focus on performance and usability. The company has just announced of their new version of laptops and they started by revamped and modifying lot of things. The HP Elitebook 840 G5 promises of new design and better hardware than its last version. Now, we see of Intel Kaby Lake refresh processor that combined with 8GB RAM, and 256GB storage. However, seeing something new is not always better because the performance is slightly slower here although the battery life is improved here.
There are always a huge pros and cons when something new is coming and its unavoidable here. I just hope the system would manage to deliver of solid experience here especially considering the price range is quite high here than most of its competitors. That is what we are going to talk about here. We are going to talk about it further and see how it works on us. To make it easier for you to take a conclusion, let’s we jump into the article.
A Good Looking Case
I am so surprised on how good it looks. The silver aluminum case is elegant with contrasting edges all around here. The new design is quite angular and I am not seeing any rounded corners that always becoming typical of HP for many years. Yeah, I think this is the right time for them to finally moving and they really do it well here. One thing that always worries me is the build quality and thankfully the new keyboard deck and aluminum lid are convincing here. I tried to apply of strong pressure to the center area and the result is impressive as its not warped even for a little.
Opening the lid is easy to do here as now you have a chance to open it with single hand. The hinge system is smooth, but feels incredibly solid. As for the connectivity, it provides a mixed impression in my opinion. I manage to find of USB 3.0 ports, USB type-C ports, but for some reasons they remove of SD card reader. I do not really know what the reason is since they have of plenty empty spot to put it in. As long as you do not mind with the missing of SD card reader, I think you are okay here.back to menu ↑
Keyboard and Display
The design is not the only one getting redesigned here because they also give the same treatment to their old Chiclet style keyboard. The new keyboard now has better size with 16 x 15 mm that covered in matter surface. This surface provides of solid grip and smooth transitioning for fast typing. It’s fully protected from water spilling and means you do not have to worry the system would be broken when you accidentally spill your coffee on it. Overall, I am so pleased with its keyboard and I really expect them to put it on their low budget products.
As for display, the IPS panel is used here rather than putting of TN panel. The display comes with 1920 x 1080p resolution and 157 PPI. During my test with Colorimeter, it manages to reach of 387 nits for brightness and 88 percent for SRGB color. The color accuracy is still below 100 percent here, but I love its brightness that overall pretty good for outdoor usage. I am still able to use it even when the sun is directly under of my head. The matte display surface and high brightness level are the reason why it’s possible. You are not going to find something wow here, but at least everything looks great and should deliver of a fantastic experience on enjoying your work.

Software and Hardware
The Windows 10 is equipped here and HP has puts of impressive security and software on it. The HP SureStart and HP Client Security are installed and allowing you to manage all of your security setting and means you really have a total control to your system. The system also features of face recognition login thanks to the infrared camera support. The software is so relevant here and it’s coming with many things you expect from a business laptop. The security is always becoming their priority here and they do the same thing here with this laptop.
The Windows 10 is installed here and powered by Intel Core I5 8250U processor and 8GB of RAM. Each of its CPU has 1.6 GHz clock rate and 15 TDP of watt limit. In comparison, the Intel Core I5 7200U used in last generation features of 2.5 GHz clock rate and you see the clock now is lower here. As the result, I see of 10 percent performance drop although the battery life is higher. Another worth thing to mention here is the temperature. I am not seeing a throttling or temperature issue and becoming a good point because of its lower clock processor.back to menu ↑
