The HP 15 Inch BS020WM is likely a favorite laptop for almost everyone as it offers of 15 inch display and decent performance to do your basic stuff. One thing that makes it as an appealing bargain here is the price point that only costs you not more than 400 dollars. We have tough competitors from this price range like Lenovo Ideapad 120S, but keep in mind it features smaller screen as return. Here, you totally get of 15.6 inch screen although the panel resolution is still at 1366 x 768 resolutions. But hey, finding a full HD resolution display is not something easy to do here.
In term of performance, the basic hardware configuration is promised here. The Windows 10 Home edition is pre-installed and powered by Intel Pentium N3710 processor, 4GB RAM, and 1TB HDD storage. The DVD RW drive is available here and means you really have a fully functional device for taking your productivity. We have provided a review here in case you want to check it. We are going to talk about it further on this article. To make it easier for you to take a conclusion, let’s we jump into the article.
Design and Build Quality
Buying a cheap laptop will always likely give you a standard design and the thing is happened here. The entire chassis is created from plastic and covered in grey finishing touch. The plastic lid here is not bad in my opinion as it they put of great finishing. For the interior, the similar design treatment continues to the inside and you soon find a combination of full size keyboard and its screen on this area. One thing worth mentioning here is the weight. Yeah, with 4.5 pounds and dimension at 10 x 14.9 x 0.9 inches, the system is not really portable to carry around. This is designed for home or office usage and never expect for long travel.
Furthermore for the connectivity, what you are going to receive is very standard. There are total of three USB ports that included of 2 USB 3.0 ports and single USB 2.0 port. Then, we also get of HDMI, SD card, headphone jack, and a charger slot for charging the battery. USB type-C is completely missing here and I think it’s pretty normal as the budget is limited here. They likely put everything on display which is bigger than its competitors.back to menu ↑
Inputs and Display
Similarly like its competitors, many manufactures try to put of numpad keys on their laptop included of HP here. The full size keyboard has a Chiclet style that featured of numpad area at the right side of its keyboard. The keyboard itself works as supposed to be although the travel distant is relative low here. Once again, it’s back to our preference as many users prefer to have short or longer travel key here. The same impression find on its touchpad that appeared in wide size. The touchpad surface is created from plastic, but navigating through the operating system feels smooth without much error.
As for the display, the 15 inch display is equipped with 1366 x 768 TN panel. The color accuracy and brightness is low, but not far from my expectation. One thing that really bothers me here is the viewing angle that only limited in front view and not meant to see from right or left sides. Surprisingly, the panel is fully supported with touchscreen which is weird as it’s not considered as convertible laptop. Believe me, the touchscreen is not so useful here and I rather pick to use of touchpad rather than moving around by swiping my finger.

Performance and Battery Life
The hardware configuration of Intel Pentium N3710 and 4GB RAM are used here. The processor itself is coming from Braswell platform that introduced in 2016. Many manufactures start to use it at earliest of 2017 and making it not so bad for 2018. Each of CPU here features of 1.6 GHz default clock and 2.56 GHz for boosted clock. 1.6 GHz clock rate is not special, but it’s becoming so special the processor has produced with 14 nm lower power processes. As the result, power consumption is far from their old generation CPU. Here, I tried to run many applications and never find any issues on office usage, browsing, and streaming movies. Just never try to run demanding software like Photoshop because it takes lot of time and patient to do it here.
For battery life, we can expect of 5 to 6 hours in normal usage. Reducing the brightness or light usage should give more battery to spend, but for most of time 5 or 6 hours is very standard here. The battery consumption is relatively low, but sadly the 3 cell battery is just not enough to hold everything. I think this is the biggest cons I find here and better to check it further and see how it works on you. I am personally seeing it as normal case since the case is happened in similar laptops like Acer Aspire E15.back to menu ↑
The low end or budget market is becoming more and more competitive every year and even manage to see of 15 inch laptop in 300 to 400 dollars price range. HP is one of the earliest manufactures that start to bring larger screen to this market. The laptop itself is not perfect as the problem on battery is being an issue. But, it does stop me to recommend it to you in case you want something decent to support your work days. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration you want.
