Dell Inspiron 17 is a solid midrange multimedia system that is equipped with Intel 8th generation of processor. The system itself manages to deliver of great performance although the price point is still quite high right now. It costs you for around 1000 dollars and should let you to support your productivity and playing some games during your work break. For this review, I have a chance to take on the highest model that coming with Intel Core I7 8550U, 16GB of RAM, and AMD Radeon 530 graphic card. The hardware configuration itself is pretty high for the price as comparable with similar competitors, we might only get of 8GB memory and only Intel I5 processor.
The company totally give a worth shot for low budget consumers to take a powerful device in affordable way. Let’s see how far it manages to satisfy our needs in every sector. I just hope the problem like dimmer display and poor battery life are not found here. That is what we are going to talk about it further on this article. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article. Hope it turns out to be a nice deal.
Design and Build
The design here for me is pretty clean and simple. The chassis itself is designed from aluminum and leaving nice impression with the finishing touch. It does not look like a cheap system and rather looking so premium in hands. If you do not want to deal with silver lid, then you could get the black version that sadly needs to cost you 5 dollars more expensive. The build quality for the base is really impressive as pushing it with some amount of power and twisting around are not making any cracking or ripples. The middle base is quite bit weak here, but the rest of area is great. Unfortunately, the system could not be opened with single hand because for some reasons the hinge system is too stiff.
Measuring at 11 x 16.4 x 1 inches, the device is weight for around 6.15 pounds. Well, 6 pounds is not too recommended to carry around and I suggest you to just take it off on your office or home. I tried to carry it on my bag for couple of times, but it’s happened for a while because the weight starting to hurt my back. On the other hand, the port connectivity is well complete here as it supports both of modern and old generation ports. There are three USB 3.0 ports alongside with USB type-C port connectivity.back to menu ↑
Display and Inputs
The 17 inch display is installed alongside 1920 x 1080p resolution. The panel itself features of 127 PPI and looks crisp and details on almost content. Based on my test with Colorimeter, the panel produces of 88 percent of SRGB color space and 262 nits for brightness. The 88 percent brightness distribution is very standard and I still find the HP Pavilion is better at 91 percent. Similarly like its previous generation, the screen suffers of dimmer brightness. Dell should give us brighter screen considering the price range is high here. I hope the other sector can cover of this problem.
As for the keyboard, what we get here is a full size keyboard with Chiclet style. The keyboard is fully integrated into the base unit and means you are not going to see any high difference between the keyboard and deck area. The keys themselves have short travel keys and featuring solid grip in our every pressure. Everything is reliable and convenient here although the layout is unique and might take some time to get used for a while. It should provide you a good space to finish your work and enjoying your multimedia purposes.

Performance and Gaming
The performance is probably the biggest selling point here. The Intel i7-8550U and AMD Radeon 530 are high end component and promising of solid experience to our every need included of gaming. I never find any issue on running many applications at the same time eve when stressing with heavy test at the same time. The Quad Core CPU features 1.8 GHz clock rate and will reach higher clock to 4.0 GHz clock rate when it’s needed. As for graphic card, the Radeon 530 performance is very comparable with Radeon 7 M440. The graphic card will run of old AAA games and E-Sport without any problem. I have tried few games and the result is far from my expectation.
The FIFA 18 is very playable at 51 FPS on medium setting. The lowest setting is smoother as it reaches of 95 FPS at HD resolution. The similar result goes to Rocket League, Overwatch, Team Fortress 2, Titan Fall 2, and Rainbow Six Siege. The performance might not comparable with GTX 1050, but dependable enough for running or doing low end gaming in portable way. This might be a good consideration for taking it as your primary device.back to menu ↑
The Inspiron 17 is clearly a powerful multimedia system at around 1000 dollars. The Quad Core CPU, crisp display, and premium design are only few worthy things to check here. It has more impressive selling point waiting for you to test it. My biggest complaint is located only at display which is dimmer than I expect. That is the only consideration you need to think twice here. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration here. I just hope the information is useful for you. At last, thank you for reading the article and see you again next time.
