Chromebooks are pretty popular choices among the student or school users mainly because it’s familiar usage and it’s resistant to virus attack. Yeah, the operating system is a safe environment even for kids to play with. Never worry for installing anti-virus and reinstalling your OS every time it’s infected because the virus or malware are almost impossible to find here. For you want to stick with this machine, I have Dell Chromebook 11 3189 to recommend here. The system has a small and light convertible design that easy to carry around and transforming it into multiple functionalities. The application support is nearly as crowded as Windows, but it allows you to run of Android application here.
I think this 11 inch convertible machine is considered as one of the best choice to afford for your kids. It might not have a solid performance or the highest quality screen, but it still has of all day battery life, durable chassis, and powerful audio support. I think its good time for us to take look inside and see how it works on satisfying your needs. That is what we are going to talk about here without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Design and Connectivity
After I unbox it for the first time, I have to say the design is nearly plain with only few details located on lid area. There are only the company and Google logos found in top right and left corners. Surprisingly, I found of three colors light available here which is useful to communicate with your students with disturbing their concentration. This feature is available to use after downloading their application from Chrome Webstore. The entire chassis itself is created from entirely plastic that covered in metallic silver finishing. Every edge on corner is covered with some kind of rubberized texture that will protect it from bumps or drops.
The hinge system is loose enough and allowing you to swap it into three different modes included of tent, tablet, and traditional modes. Each mode has their functionality like the tablet mode itself that feels useful for browsing around the internet in ease. Moving to connectivity, we receive of HDMI port, SD card reader, power jack, and two USB ports for transferring and moving all of stuff. USB type-C connection is completely missing here for some reasons. I think they do not include it basically for cutting the budget.back to menu ↑
Durability and Features
The durability is the main selling point here thanks to nice support from Dell. The company said, every their device has received of MIL STD durability certificate that covers of some abuse conditions included of drop, bump, shock, and extreme temperature tests. Dropping it from 30 inches height is not a big problem here since it still works after the test. I tried to drop it couple of times and the result is satisfying although the bumper is quite destroyed here as result of the drops. Overall, I have nothing to complaint about its durability, so better take it as main consideration for taking it back home.
As for useful features, we have of 11 inch screen with 1366 x 768p resolution. Luckily, the display is bright enough and produce good amount of color production. It covers of 81 percent of SRGB color and 223 nits for brightness. Streaming movies and doing work are enjoyable moreover with touchscreen support that feels responsive on navigating through the system. The thing will be perfect if only the brightness is slightly higher here as 223 nits is tough for outdoor usage. Thankfully, students mostly use it for indoor and not becoming a big problem.
|Dell Chromebook 11 3189||Main Specs|
|CPU||Intel Celeron N3060 Apollo Lake 1.1 GHz|
|Graphics||Intel HD Grapchic Card|
|Memory||4GB DDR3 Memory|
|Storage||64GB EMMC Drive|
The Intel Celeron N3060 and 4GB RAM are featured here. The dual core processor features of 1.1 GHz base clock and maintaining the stability of performance pretty well. I never notice any performance drop although lags noticeable when trying to open more than 15 tabs at Chrome. The Chrome OS is thankfully designed for low end hardware and don’t be surprise if you see better performance in comparable with Windows although the hardware is similar. If you just deal with browsing, checking email, and doing of light stuff, I think this is a perfect capable system to afford right now.
Furthermore, I mostly get of 9 to 10 hours usage on my battery test. The battery result is slightly lower than what I find on Acer Chromebook, but I guess 9 hours is more than enough for kids to finish their job without relying on charger. A full day usage is totally possible moreover if they only doing of light browsing and playing some games. This is what you should find if you want to stick with Chromebook. The battery life is always at least 30 percent better than what Microsoft promises on their Windows 10. I recommend you to check it and see its further by yours.back to menu ↑
