HP Pavilion 15 T8TJG Review – A Budget Level Laptop Powered by AMD APU

The HP Pavilion 15 is relatively cheap for only around 600 dollars, but keep in mind in term of performance, this system is quite powerful for taking care of your stuff. The device is powered by AMD A12 CPU that sports of Radeon R7 GPU embedded on it. The Quad Core CPU and powerful GPU are making a big impact here on overall performance. If you expect to find a cheap machine in low budget, then you likely would never find similar impressive deal like this case. Unfortunately, the thing is not perfect as the battery life getting impact as this powerful hardware configuration.

HP finally makes their way into mid-end market and now pretty much comparable with Acer in term of pricing and performance. The Acer Aspire E15 is its only competitor it has right now where the specification and everything is pretty much similar. I think its worth for us to take look inside and see how it works on us. That is what we are going to talk about here on this article. To make it easier for you to understand, let’s we jump into the article.

Case and Design

The smooth plastic shell finishing is introduced here and it looks pretty great and appealing to broad users. I do not think people will find it as a cheap device because HP is giving a well done finishing job here. Unfortunately, the build quality is not my favorite here as the plastic material is used here feels cheap and not so sturdy. Tweaking sounds when pressing the center base is almost impossible to find here although the rigidity should be better here. I really hope they can add of better material here and everything will be perfect here. I still have no complaint for it considering the price itself that already cheap.

Moving into connectivity area, we have plenty of useful ports. There are two USB types-A ports which one of them is USB 2.0 and USB 3.0. It’s hard to believe that HP is still using of USB 2.0 port in 2018. Thankfully, the USB type-C here manages to deliver of strong performance on transferring and moving our data. As the companion for this connectivity, we also get of HDMI, power jack, charging port, and micro SD slot. Overall, I am satisfied with the design and connectivity although the thing is not perfect.

Productivity and Multimedia Aspects

HP Pavilion 15 T8TJG 2 The full size island type keyboard is featured here and offering a nice experience on typing. I manage to type for around 70 to 75 words per minute with 2 to 2.5 percent of error rate. The keys are tactile and feel solid on our every pressure. Sadly, the travel distant between keys should be better here as sometimes I accidentally press the wrong buttons during some cases. As the result, my rror rate is slightly higher than my standard. One worth thing mentioning here is the backlit support. The thing is missing here and making typing in darker environment is hard to do.

As for the display, we get of relatively good contrast and crisp display here. The screen is capable of producing 58 percent for SRGB color and 206 nits for brightness. The color accuracy is always being a problem for cheap devices and the same case happened here. On our plus side, the contrast like I said before is better than most its competitors at the same price range here. The HD resolution is not the highest one available right now, but will provide enough room for enjoying your favorite movies from Netflix or YouTube.

Performance and Battery Consumption

For this review unit, I am getting the AMD A12 9720P processor variant that coming with 8GB RAM. The Quad Core processor features of 2.7 GHz base clock and boosted clock at 3.8 GHz. The power consumption taken is seriously higher than Intel processor, but in return the performance is over whelming positive especially on GPU side. The graphic card manages to take 3D intensively better than Intel HD on every case. It scores for 750 points on 3DMark Fire Strike test that becoming the sign its performance. For gaming, I do not really recommend you to take it for this case although the older games like Batman Arkham Asylum are playable at lowest setting. The graphic card is weak, so better to check alternative option.

Furthermore, for power consumption, I am surprise the system takes only nearly 37 watts for running the entire operating system. However, due the usage of small 3 cell 31 watts battery the battery life is far from my expectation. Play around on browsing and taking care of stuff leave me of 4 to 5 hours usage. I already set the brightness into 50 percent and that is the result I always have here. That amount of time forces you to charge it for twice and even three times a day for this case. This is the biggest consideration you need to think here.

Final Thought

The Pavilion 15 provides of many positive sides based on my review. The performance is specifically worth mentioning here because GPU and CPU are dependable for intensive work. Sadly, the battery gets a huge impact for its performance and forcing the users for always carrying its charger all the time. Well, the case is not a big problem for home or work usage since you probably should sit near of wall adapter. Once again, the choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration here. I just hope the information provided is satisfying enough. Make sure checking our latest article please leaves some comment for further assistance regarding the article.
