ASUS Vivobook Flip 14 TP401NA – A Low Cost 2 in 1 Laptop

The ASUS Vivobook Flip 14 TP401NA is a compact and slim convertible system that available for all of users. Many similar devices will likely cost you more than 500 dollars and even more, but here you could get it for only under 400 dollars and featured an impressive specifications. The system is powered by Intel Apollo Lake N4200, 4GB RAM, and 64GB EMMC. The touchscreen display is operated with either of our finger or stylus support. The other competitors offer similar products like Acer Spin 1 here, but there is something that ASUS has done better here. It wins on screen quality that looks so impressive for the price range.

This is a low end capable laptop that mainly targets of business users that do not need a powerful hardware, but rather depends on portability and mobility. This could be a great choice if you are related in that job. I think its worth for us to take look inside and see how it works on us. That is what we are going to talk about here. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.

Design and Connectivity

The slim and compact case is featured here and it’s created from both of metal and plastic materials for this case. The base area itself is created from plastic while the lid area is getting better treatment with metal construction for adding premium feel. The light case is totally worth here as its only weight for around 3.3 pounds at dimension 12.9 x 89 x 0.6 inches. Unfortunately, the stability can be better here as the case warped easily by using some amount of power. The rigidity is lack here and forcing us to use it steadily and safely here. Well, there is always a price for a cheap laptop, so complaint from me here.

Furthermore, let’s check the connectivity here. Surprisingly, I am not finding any USB type-A port here. There are only single USB type-C and another micro USB port. Not a big deal for connecting our smartphone as most of them supports these two ports, but it would be a big problem when you want to connect your external HDD or thumb drive here because it forces on buying and carrying the extra adapter all around. ASUS at least have to put of single USB type-A port for adding easier access for users.

Full HD Display and Chiclet Keyboard

ASUS Vivobook Flip TP401NA 2 Seeing a 14 inch screen on 1920 x 1080p resolution is impressive as similar manufactures only offers of 11 or 13 inch display at the same price point here. In term of quality, both of brightness and contrast are relatively great here and providing a crisp and detail images. The thing is more impressive when seeing the viewing angle is so wide. Based on my test with Colorimeter, it manages to produce of 59 percent for SRGB color and 239 nits for brightness. The result is better than my expectation here. Unfortunately, the stylus pen is not included on the package although the display is fully support for touchscreen. Any stylus pen working fine here included the pen from Surface Pro.

The company equips the device with Chiclet style keyboard with missing of backlit support. For good side, the keyboard is comfortable for typing and does not give away on this case. On bad side, the key resistance should be better here for gaining crisper and solid feedback. For regular typing, I never find any issue on many occasional situations moreover the Flip is light enough to take it on our lap and typing along the way during my travel.

Hardware Specifications

You are not going to find of Intel Core series like on its older brother here. For making it cheaper and available for broader consumers, ASUS swaps it with Intel Apollo Lake N4200 processor here. Thankfully, it has a Quad Core CPU and no longer Dual Core. Means, you can expect of some dependable performance here. The CPU itself features of 1.1 GHz default clock and limits in 6 TDP watts. Thanks to the low power consumption, the laptop is passively cooled. No noisy noise fan here and its operated in silent. The hardware level is pretty standard, but should provide more than enough power for checking email doing all of stuff.

My biggest issue so far here is located on storage. 64GB EMMC is faster than HDD, but sadly is easy to fill up in no time. Our only option is putting of micro SD as the external storage since EMMC is not upgradable here. Adding 128GB SD or bigger should give you more room for saving your files, music, and movies. This is the biggest consideration that important to think here. Just take it when you think it as not a big problem.

The Flip TP401NA is a must buy for users expect for a low budget convertible laptop. Acer and other manufactures provide similar choices here, but neither of them giving a really worth system to check.
