The versatility and portability are the things what most people looking right now and its successfully found on Dell Latitude 5590. It’s a 15 inch device which is common here, but makes it special is the weight and dimensions that much lighter and thinner than its competitors. This new design does not cost too much on its performance because the system is still powered by an overclocked version of Intel Core I5, 8GB RAM, and 256GB SSD. This is a big deal especially after seeing the price point that only costs you nearly around 1000 dollars. Its worth for our money and making it considered as one of the cheapest one available right now.
In trade of its pricing, of course there are few things need to trade off here and I find that the screen quality is very standard and probably not so suitable for professional usage like photo and video editing. It’s better for us to take look inside and find out how the system is worth for our money. That is what we are going to talk about here. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Case and Features
The design featuring an overall black and plain look here. The look is very premium here and thankfully the build quality is also relatively great. The flex is almost impossible to find here, but sadly the base area is possible to twist even with little of power. The different case is different on its lid area that feels sturdier and stronger than the base. During the typing the screen is not wobble and means a good sign for the durability here. The build quality is their main point here moreover with MIL STD 810G certificates that it has on hands. The certificate is coming from US military standard and I think the case is not something to easily be broken here.
Weighting around 2.0 kg, the weight is not considered as the lightest one right now, but still in similar category like its competitor, the HP Probook 850 that I have reviewed before. These two devices are the fair comparison here because they have similar specs and footprint here. As for the port connectivity, I think seeing of USB type-A and USB type-C are good sign here. There are two USB 3.0 ports, single USB type-C, HDMI, audio jack, SD card reader, security lock, and a headphone jack. Overall, the design is great although the build could be better. Keep in mind, the price is making it impossible here, so no complaint from me.back to menu ↑
Multimedia and Productivity
Dell still puts of better display here with 15 inch IPS panel in comparison with 15 inch HD panel we see last year. Unfortunately, the overall quality is not improved here as the panel only produce 60 percent SRGB color space and 234 nits brightness. For end users, this thing is not a big problem, but I do not really recommend it for photo editing here because I am sure you would miss so many details here. It produces of high quality images, but some colors are not so accurate here. The screen is pretty great, but still below of my expectation here.
As for the keyboard, the Chiclet style keyboard in 15 inch machine is a nice idea here. The keyboard here looks comfortable and tidy in 14 x 14 sizes. The key sizes are quite smaller than its competitors, but still feel comfortable enough for long usage. The layout itself is not very familiar and maybe takes some time for getting used here especially for a new user. The layout is different because there is a numpad area that makes them to make the normal keys smaller in case for this feature. I just hope the keys should be firmer here and it’s going to be a perfect machine for typing.
|Dell Latitude 5590||Main Specs|
|CPU||Intel Core I5-8350U 1.7 GHz|
|Graphics||Intel HD Integrated Card|
|OS||Windows 10 Pro|
|Memory||8GB DDR4 Memory|
The performance is satisfying in my opinion moreover the system is coming with the higher version of Intel Core I5 from Kaby Lake Refresh generation. The Core I5-8350U is having higher clock rate at 1.7 GHz in comparable with I5-8250U that features 1.6 GHz clock. The different is not so great here, but in real life test, the performance is smoother and lighter here. Thanks to eight thread hyper threading, running video rendering is done much faster than the last generation processor. The Quad Core CPU produces significant better result in multi thread performance although the single core result is lower as the result of lower clock rate. Well, this is still a nice upgrade over its last generation.
Furthermore, the last thing worth mentioning here is the battery life. The 51 Wh battery is built into the machine and actually providing a mediocore result here. As the result of higher power consumption, the battery life is lower than I expect. I always getting of 7 hours and 30 minutes usage no matter how many settings I set here. Dell promises of bigger battery capacity here, but we still not seeing its coming right now. I do not really know how they can add bigger battery here considering the space itself is already so tight here. I guess getting rid the 2.5 inch drive way is only the solution they have here.back to menu ↑
The Latitude 5590 is an impressive 15 inch laptop in case you want of performance and versatility at the same time. There are so many good positive sides to find here although few parts like screen and battery are quite bad. Well, this is the price for its cheap price point, so better of finding alternative for these two cases. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration you want here. I just hope the information is good enough for you on making of decision. Feel free of checking our latest article and mind leaving some comment for further assistance regarding the article.
