The Gigabyte Aorus X5 V8 could be considered as the lightest gaming machine from Gigabyte, but it actually does not suffer any performance issue because what you get on the inside is totally beast. You have of Intel Coffee Lake processor which fully overclockable, 15.6 inch 144 Hz display, and GTX 1070. If you expect to see of a power horse in a portable system, then you are in right place here. One thing that makes you surprise here is the pricing. Yeah, the company puts it under 3000 dollars and making it known as cheapest one available right now. By introducing this new system, Gigabyte hopes to continue their good trend in gaming market as last year they sold plenty of units.
The Aorus series is coming as a fully fledge gaming console with thick and heavy chassis which suitable for long usage. The thing is different in comparable with Aero series that both target of multimedia and gaming users on its light and thin chassis. Well, I guess its worth for us to take look inside and see how it works on us. That is what we are going to talk about here. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Design and Construction
The construction is not changed little it as they put the same exact chassis like last year. The chassis sports of magnesium surface and construction that then is finished in matte black finishing. The lid area features of a fully backlit Aorus logo which looks pretty great in low light condition. The build quality is very impressive as the stability is great. But, I really hope the lid area should be more resistant although twisting it with some amount of power is hard to do. The hinge system feels not so tight and very easy to open. Many users complaint of this case because the screen could easily reacts to slightly movement. Well, the thing is back in user’s preference here.
Weighting at 2.5 kg, the X5 is considered as bulky and heavy. Thankfully, the dimension and weight are still lighter than its brother the X9 and most of competitors outside there. For once again, I do not recommend you to take it for mobility and I recommend you to check of the Gigabyte Aero 15 V8 for this case. One thing that I do not really like here is the bezel surrounded the display. It looks thick, chunky, and making it like a 17 inch system. Overall, both construction and design are overwhelmingly well made and worth for the money.back to menu ↑
Input and Display
One of most important features to check here is the keyboard because you probably know all of your activities will relate to this case. After testing it for couple weeks and getting used to it, I feel the input device is very impressive thanks to its sizeable chassis. All of keys are well spaced and even features of extra numeric keys at the right side. The same case is found on the touchpad as the size is big and the surface is very smooth and responsive. It fully supports Windows Precision Gesture and supported multiple gestures.
As for the display, the X-Rite technology making a very big difference here. The 15.6 inch display has of 144 Hz refresh rate and giving slightly better response than its previous generation. The response during gameplay is really smooth especially in FPS games. It covers of 93 percent of SRGB color and having 259 nits brightness. Yeah, the brightness is quite bit lower, but keep in mind for most all of time you are going to use it for indoor usage.

The hardware configuration is really designed for hardcore gamers because we get of Core I7 8850H processor which the faster version from 8750H and GTX 1070. The CPU itself sports of 2.6 GHz clock and maximum clock at 4.3 GHz instead of 2.2 GHz and 4.1 GHz. On Cinebench R15, the performance easily beat its competitor like ASUS GM501 in every aspect. Combining with 1070, you will have the best experience for gaming here. All games are playable at ultra-setting even for Far Cry 5 which just released here. It gets of 94 FPS at high and 90 FPS at ultra-setting. You would never have any problem on performance here.
Checking its thermal, the temperature is not being a big problem here thanks to chunky and big chassis. It gets warm after 60 minutes, but never goes beyond 65 degree even during heavy usage. Just make sure the area is well ventilated and you should be okay here. As for the battery, do not expect something wonderful because it’s a gaming system and means if the battery life is bad, then it’s normal. The 94 Wh battery should last for 3 to 4 hours in gaming.back to menu ↑

Here, you will get of a sturdy machine, high quality display, overclockable processor, and impressive audio quality. In comparable with similar option, the X5 sure wins here considering the price is much cheaper and giving us more performance.
