Gamers around the world should be familiar with this well-known Taiwanese company as their big name is always being sponsored and seen in many E-Sport competitions. Many users will have different criteria for a good gaming system, but there are so many of them will get their choices at MSI because it features of impressive specification in such a low price. For this case, we are going to take look into MSI GP62VRX 694 which their latest attempt to get users who want to try VR gaming with their latest product. The laptop features of GTX 1060 graphic card which you probably think as good enough for this activity.
One worth mentioning thing here is the price. They put the price overall in under 1500 dollars and being a very competitive option in comparable with other manufactures. This is worthy option as long as you do not mind with low quality display and overall cheap plastic build. I think its worth for us to take look inside and see how it works on us. That is what we are going to talk about further here. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Design and Connectivity
The case is giving of mixed impression here as it has different combination from high and lower quality materials. The brushed lid itself feels and looks pretty cool and premium as soon as I get my hands on it, but sadly the case is being easily a fingerprint magnet and the adornment for some reasons is too simple. The build quality is impressive although the flex is very noticeable especially when you pushing the lid with some amount of power. This thing is very normal as similar system suffer the same problem here. For the hinge system, thankfully it’s flexible and easy enough to flip over to 135 to 140 degree. Overall, you really get of what you pay for in term of design here.
Comparing the design with similar options like ASUS GL503VD here, then you should see ASUS doing much better thing, but keep in mind the specification is different. As for the connectivity, I guess I am not getting any problem even I still see of USB 2.0 port. There are two USB 3.0 ports and single USB type-C for taking care all of your needs. Well, at least I am still able to connect my HTC VR headset here without any problem. I just hope we have of Thunderbolt 3 support and means we can plug external GPU for more performance.back to menu ↑
Perfect for Gaming, but Might not for Multimedia
The 15.6 inch panel features of 1920 x 1080p resolution and produced by Chi Mei. Well, I am actually not a fan of their TN panel because sometimes it has poor black level and the case is being happened here. The laptop might have 94 percent color space and producing of detail and crisp images, but sadly the viewing angle is so limited to only front pacing area. Seeing it from different angle, you start see the screen losing both of brightness and images quality. While the other colors look perfect, the black one is kind of hit and miss here. Like I said on the title, it’s good for gaming, but not that impressive for streaming or watching movies.
As for the input, you are looking in good place if you want a good keyboard here. The Steelseries keyboard is back again and providing one of the best ways on typing. The keys are crisp and offering well defines and drops down. The same goes to feedback as my every pressure feels good and overall better than I expectation. The keyboard comes with Anti Ghosting technology and won’t give any issue on accuracy.

Performance and Battery
The performance is very expected from an Intel I7 7700HQ and GTX 1060. The processor itself is 40 percent better than its previous generation while the GPU is probably 25 percent more powerful than GTX 1060. One thing that GTX 1050 could not do here is VR gaming. For this case, I have tried to run VR Chat and LA Noire and the games run okay although getting the setting in ultra is impossible due of amount of power. Playing it on medium or high setting are good and you do not lose much detail here. Once again, if you expect for something cheap and powerful, I recommend you of this machine as my top alternative at this price range.
The performance is great, but what about its battery life? Well, the battery is worst and it’s considered as worst because it only lasts for 2 hours and 40 minutes for my majority test. The older version of GP62 performs 20 percent more battery on this case. The 41 Wh battery here is just not enough to take its tremendous power. I guess this what we have to accept from a budget system.back to menu ↑
The GP62VRX is never considered as a perfect system as it suffers of some issues on display and battery. However, the performance should pay your money since it runs many things in good experience. For a device under 1200 dollars, I cannot make a big complaint as the manufactures tries their best to make it so affordable. At last, it does not stop me to recommend it to you. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration here. I just hope the information is good enough for you. Feel free to check our latest article and see you again next time.
