We are seeing a big improvement on mobile CPU as every year they keep getting better and more powerful. The development itself is even faster than we have on PC. People will switch their smartphone at least once in a year, but it takes them 2 or even 3 years to upgrade their laptop. This high demand force the manufactures to make something new and better. Now, be ready to take yourself to see one of the first laptop powered by mobile CPU. The HP Envy X2 is a detachable laptop equipped with Snapdragon 835 processor. At this year, we see two different systems using this processor. The list included of ASUS NovaGo and the Envy X2.
While, the performance from this processor might not as powerful as Intel Core I5 series, HP promises the system will carry LTE connectivity and up to 20 hours battery usage. For users, who expect their machine to last entire day without any charge this is a nice deal here. I think its worth for us to take look inside and see how it performs on handling our major activity. That is what we are going to talk about here. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Design and Connectivity
The HP X2 is basically just a tablet with attachable keyboard through its magnetic port. But, the design does look impressive and premium here as the entire chassis is fully designed from CNC aluminium construction. It holds comfortably at our hands and feels sturdy. One of the biggest selling to find here is the portability. The system itself is only weight for 2.7 pounds when the keyboard is attached. It’s measured at 0.6 inch thickness and very comparable with Lenovo Miix 720 for this case. The weight is just slightly heavier than Surface Pro, but not that much. Overall, I am very satisfied with design and construction here.
The cover type keyboard is included on its package and fully usable for allowing you to transform it into multiple needs depending on your needs. It uses pretty well at stand and tablet modes, but for some reasons it does not use pretty well when putting it at my lap as the hinge is not so sturdy. As for the connectivity, we only have of USB type-C port without any standard USB port. There are a micro SD slot for expanding the storage and SIM card tray for adding your SIM card.back to menu ↑
Real Life Usage
During our travel sometimes we do not manage to find of good WIFI coverage and this where the laptop is shining here. It has a LTE SIM slot and means users can just plug their card and using the internet anytime and anywhere they want. It’s such a nice idea to have LTE connectivity and I think every business system should have it. Sadly, this kind of feature is actually only possible at a laptop with mobile processor as LTE takes lot of battery even during the idle mode. Some Surface Pro versions have this feature, but keep in mind the battery life is quite bad.
Moving into productivity and multimedia usages, you have of 12 inch display with 1920 x 1080p resolution. The display quality is amazing here as it covers of 100 percent SRGB color and having 486 nits brightness. It looks bright and crisp at the same time. Streaming the trailer from Infinity War looks amazing as the detail surrounded us. They put of nearly 1000 dollars for the system and I think the quality we receive here is totally worth for the price range. Let’s just hope it does not bring much effect to its battery life.

Performance and Battery
There are pros and cons of having the 835 processor here. In good side, the processor manages to produce great amount of power in very low power consumption. This thing leads to longer battery life and better than any laptop available right now. The big problem now, the 835 CPU runs at ARM architecture and means there are lot of applications are not fully compatible here. The good example is Google Chrome which running in bad performance in comparable with Microsoft Edge. Then, you might not be able to download install application from outside Windows Store, but thankfully all of applications there are fully supported here.
Another worth mentioning feature here is the battery life. The battery life is very satisfying since it lasts for up to 15 hours on my battery test included of doing web browsing by using the LTE connection for nonstop. Putting it on idle mode, the battery does not really take great amount of battery and will last for 2 days. Like I said before, if you want kind of machine just for checking email and editing some documents, this is a perfect machine for you thanks to long last battery.back to menu ↑
The HP Envy X2 might not be a device for everyone as it still has some limitation due to hardware issue. Microsoft promises they would continue giving an update and making it as stable as using standard system. This is long term of project from the company and means you are going to see of big improvement next years. Well, I recommend you to check of this laptop and see how it works on you. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration here. I just hope the information is good enough for you. At last, thank you for reading the article and see you again next time.
