Dell Precision 7720 is truly a beast in term of power. It looks like Dell really wants to provide users the best portable workstation by putting such a high end hardware configuration. On the inside, you will soon find Intel Xeon processor that combined with Quadro P3000 graphic card. By having this kind of hardware, you basically have a chance to do anything you want and even doing 3D rendering and doing CAD will feel easily for this hardware. Of course, by having such a good specification means force you to spend lot of money here. It costs you nearly around 4200 dollars and that is quite amount of money to spend for a laptop.
This year, we do not really see a very competitive market because there are not too many manufactures provide of 17 inch workstation. We just see of Lenovo and Dell as the main players come into this segmented market. For this review, we are going to take look into this system and find out how it works on satisfying our needs. That is what we are going to talk about here. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.
Design and Connectivity
Dell has not made pretty good changes in term of design here. The build construction is remaining similar as its last year generation, but for this case they now put of Thunderbolt 3 port connectivity which is pretty necessary nowadays. Users should find of these ports located at the left side alongside with four standard USB 3.0 ports. The mini display port looks very interesting here because it fully supports of up to 8K resolution and HDR content. I have a chance to test it on my 4K monitor and it does look pretty amazing. Another worth mentioning thing here is VR. Yeah, VR is fully supported on Pascal based GPU although I am not sure you would do gaming a lot here.
There is not much to talk about from its design because the chassis looks pretty strong and durable. The build construction is rigid and I am not seeing any bad thing to complaint here. Some users might give a complaint toward its design because it looks plain and simple for a 4000 dollars laptop. Well, everything its back on you for deciding how it looks on you. However, what you get here is truly worth for its price range.back to menu ↑
Method of Input and Display Quality
Having a 17.3 inch machine means users can expect something comfortable and wonderful from its keyboard. Yeah, the thing is really happened here because the keyboard feels so comfortable in my experience. The keys are well spaced and featuring a very nice drop down and pressure point. It does not sound noisy and then feels good enough even for long usage. The numeric pads are featured here, but still offering very big sizes normal keys. The backlit support is also available here and having different configurations depending on what your needs here. I think the keyboard it has here is very comparable with what we see on Thinkpad P71.
As for the display, the 17 inch screen is very promising as it looks bright and crisp. Dell provides of different configurations here included of 1080, 1440p, and 4K version. For this review, I get the full HD one and it covers of 72 percent for Adobe RGB and getting of a solid 441 nits of brightness. The 4K version is the most interesting one because it produces of 100 percent of SRGB which is perfect for video and photo editing. The basic version is however looks good enough as long as do not feel crazy enough in term of resolution and quality.

Performance and Battery
The hardware configuration is basically becoming the biggest selling point here. Firstly, the machine consists of Intel Xeon E3 1535M which based on Kaby Lake generation. It comes with quad core CPU up to 4.2 GHz and easily making it considered as the most powerful quad core CPU that Intel has right now. It offers of pretty solid performance especially on doing multitasking. The result on Cinebench is going strong and scores pretty impressive result. The performance is more impressive here as for the companion we also have of Quadro P3000 as the companion. This GPU is basically the business version of GTX 1060 will let doing anything you want here. The performance is not being a problem here.
Checking its battery life, further I find a good result here. The 91 Wh battery here could easily last for 6 to 7 hours even during heavy usage. The battery performs a very well result despite of how high the power consumption coming both from GPU and CPU. The GPU performance will slightly reduce during heavy usage to ensure the temperature level which could easily damage the battery due of heat issue. Overall, I am impressed on battery result and could be the main consideration for taking it as your old laptop replacement.back to menu ↑
The Precision 7720 is probably the most powerful workstation users can afford right now. The combination of Xeon CPU and Quadro GPU are a perfect playground for taking care of your needs for performance. The same goes to battery that runs very well and very far in comparable with is predecessor or the competitors. The price is however becoming a huge problem as 4000 dollars is not something we could easily make. Well, the choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration. I just hope the information is good enough on making you a consideration. Feel free to check our latest article and mind leaving any comments for further assistance regarding the article.
