Clevo P955ER 15 Inch Laptop Review – Mobility and Power Horse Comes Together

Clevo P955ER might be not a popular device among the consumers, but if you search it further on the internet, then you are going to see some good reviews about it. The system itself features of light and portable design alongside with 15 inch display. The design here looks so wonderful and very comparable with Razer Blade 2017 design here. They do not really play with their quality of their product because what you get here is a true high end system. The biggest selling point you see here is probably located on its price point which appeared to be cheaper than its competitor.

With only for under 1800 dollars, you will get of a gaming machine equipped with Intel I7 8750H, 16GB RAM, and GTX 1070. The specification is very demanding even for high end gaming support. The price and hardware are very competitive and this is basically the main reason why it gets so popular among the consumers. I think its worth for us to take look inside and see how it works on us. That is what we are going to talk about here. Without further ado, let’s we jump into the article.

Design and Connectivity

The design is following of 2018 trend where it’s coming with light and thin chassis even it’s a gaming console. The entire chassis looks overwhelmingly made and built from aluminium construction and finished with black finishing. In term of build quality, I never find it as problem because the chassis is impossible to twist even when holding or pushing it with some amount of power. The stability and rigidity around the lid area are impressive although it could be slightly better here. Overall, the design does not promise you anything new, but its portability really stands out among its competitor.

Measuring at 9.9 x 15 x 0.7 inches, the system is weight for around 4.37 pounds. The weight here is very common at this year, but you probably notice its dimension is so small and considered as one of the smallest one available right now. For connectivity, you are not missing anything because it features of 3 USB 3.0 ports and 2 USB type-C second generation ports. Then, we also have of HDMI, mini display port, audio jack, and Ethernet slot. The placement of ports here are great and each port is easy to reach it with either your left or right hands.

Display and Input Method

Clevo P955ER 15 Inch 2 The 15 inch display is not featuring a very sharp or really accurate color because it only covers of 72 percent of SRGB color which far from 100 hundred percent. Thankfully, it’s a 144 Hz panel and offering a smooth and fast transition images. Having a smoother refresh rate is panel is much recommended especially when you really get into with professional FPS gaming. The bezel surrounded the panel is quite thin and never bothering me much on handling my experience. The mini display port featured support up to 4K resolution and means just plug it to your monitor for getting more quality here.

When you lift its lid, you soon find a full size keyboard with fully backlighting support. The keys have of strong of pressure point and very accurate drop. It feels quite mushy, but still comfortable as much as I use it for long usage. The RGB lighting does not support each key customization, but user can still customize its different zones area. This might be not the best keyboard I find at this price range, but still pretty much usable for both working and playing games. I recommend you to check it further and see how it works on you.

Gaming Test

Having a pretty high end specification means users easily could expect of enjoyable performance. The thing is true here because Core I7 8750H and GTX 1070 Max-Q combined nicely on delivering of strong performance. It runs any game I have tested included of Far Cry 5, Final Fantasy 15, and Overwatch at very high setting up to 40 FPS. I never really find a stable framerate with no big drops even during crowded or large sections area. The 256GB SSD storage is fast enough and making a fast booting process. As for saving your games, you have of 1TB HDD which I think as big enough to save dozen of games.

The temperature problem is never being the case although it gets hot pretty easily. During some cases, the fan will go to its maximum speed for keeping the temperature, so make sure for wearing headset if you do not want to get bored with the sounds. This case is rarely happened during my test for the entire week. The battery here is however lasts pretty short for around 3 to 4 hours. Well, the result is still normal, but just never expects something wonderful from it.
