Gigabyte P56XV7 KL4K3 (7700HQ, GTX 1070) Gaming Laptop Review

The Gigabyte Aero 15 is considered as most powerful and cheapest laptop available right now. Unfortunately, the system is never meant for hardcore gaming and the same time targets of professional users who wanting of powerful and portable system. Yeah, the thin and light chassis might offer less performance due its limited space for getting a perfect temperature management. In good way, the manufactures now provides another 15 inch laptop with Gigabyte P56XV7 KL4K3. This machine is appeared as different toward its little brother because it features thicker design and more powerful specification. They sport of I7 Kaby Lake generation processor and GTX 1070 graphic card.

I have tested the machine for couple of weeks and I can easily say both of performance and temperatures are better. The CPU maintaining is higher clock much longer during the Cinebench test and performs better result at this case. The price for the laptop is now dropped for only under 2000 dollars and I think this is a good way for getting it now. We are going to talk about further on this article and let’s hope it could turn into a nice deal.

Case and Looks

The design featured here is very typical of standard gaming machine where they add of plastic material and then covered with either of black surface. The build quality is good although the base is quite rattling in my opinion. I expect they make an improvement over the material next year especially at lid and base area where the surface is not really smooth. Moving into the inside, you soon find a similar expectation, but the base looks and feels stable. Pushing it with some amount of power will not make it bend or warped although the resistant surrounding the lid area can be better. Overall, my expectation is fully satisfied in both of design and builds.

Featuring of 5.71 pounds and dimension at 15.1 x 10.6 x 1.1 inches, the chassis is neither of light and small. I could still carry it around without any issue, but the portability is never being the main selling point here. It’s meant for home or works usages, but once again everything is deciding on you. One thing I love from its big chunky chassis is the connectivity, it has fully completed connectivity included of standard USB 3.0 ports, Thunderbolt 3, HDMI, mini display, RJ45, audio jack, microphone, and VGA port. Everything is complete in single package.

Display and Input

Gigabyte P56XV7 KL4K3 2 The 15 inch display impression is relatively better than standard here. The 15 inch panel covers of impressive color accuracy even though the brightness is slightly off. It successfully covers of 86 percent SRGB which slightly behind from 95% standard for professional usage. Unfortunately, the 280 nits is good for indoor, but hardly to see at outdoor usage. Thankfully, the IPS panel still offers of good viewing angle during this case. In my experience, the display gives a good value for our multimedia and gaming purposes. Gigabyte has done another wonderful job on getting everything sticked together to our budget.

As for the input, this could be a good selling point to find thanks to its definitely impressive RGB lighting like Razer Blade. The animation, brightness level, and speed level are perfectly adjustable through its setting and enable you to type nicely at low light condition. In term of usage, the keys are firm and comfortable although the pressure point should be more defined. Another good impression done at touchpad as the smooth surface offers precise and accurate navigation. However, the clicky buttons is having a hit and miss recognition during some cases. Not a big problem, but feels annoying during gaming.

Gaming Performance

We have of two powerful hardware specification put inside here. First, it features of Intel I7 7700HQ from Kaby Lake generation. The processor sports of quad core CPU at 2.8 GHz clock and manage to maintain much higher clock at 3.8 GHz. The 14nm fabrication helps maintaining the temperature and reaches maximum clock in longer time. This is a good processor for combined with any GPU. As for this case, Gigabyte packs the processor alongside NVIDIA GTX 1070. The GPU is basically like 40 percent have more performance than GTX 1050. The performance on gaming is wonderful as The Witcher 3 is fully playable at 50 FPS with ultra-setting.

The temperature is being far from issue here although it goes hot quickly during heavy loads. It’s maxed at 60 degree when running The Witcher 3 at ultra-setting. Boosting the fan speed to higher speed will help reduce the heat although the noise is quite high during the case. Make sure to put of headphone for better experience here. One worth mentioning thing to say about here is battery life. I am completely surprised it lasts for 6 hours on my web surfing test. On gaming it only gets of 3 to 4 hours, but keep in mind I put everything at maximum setting here.

Final Thought

The Gigabyte P56XV7 is cheap, but yet powerful and having long last battery. There are many features like display and keyboard surprise me in term of quality here. The software is a matter here as some software won’t work perfectly and feels inconsistent unless you update it. Not a big a problem, but worth mentioning here. With big price drop Gigabyte does right now, I think this is a good chance to afford it now. The choice is on you, so feel free to take any consideration about it. Thank you very much for reading the article and mind leaving any comment for further assistance regarding the article.
