HP Elitebook consistently offers of incredibly solid business laptop every year to the consumers. Every year the manufacture upgrades it hardware component with newest one, but this year HP surprisingly adds something different to its hardware. They just do not only put of Intel ULV processor, but fitting a more powerful one with I7 7820HQ. This brand new processor used in many gaming laptops right now specifically because it’s high performance. HP Elitebook Folio 1040 G4 is a powerful companion if you expect for more performance in portable way. Few things worry me are battery life and temperature management. The CPU features higher power consumption than ULV CPU and means less battery and more heat. I really want to know if the 67 Wh battery we have here would last long enough like I wish for.
The manufacture seems really want to target broader audience here which almost limited to some end users here. I have checked the system for couple of weeks and I am going to share my opinion about it here. That is what we are going to talk about. Without further ado, let’s we jump up into the article and see how it works for our budget.
Design and Connectivity
The case design is really remaining me of what we see on Lenovo Ideapad 720 series. The design and surface finishing look really similar here. Keep in mind, this is not a bad way considering Lenovo has done wonderful job on making it so sturdy and light. Similar experience is also found here as HP built the chassis with aluminum material. No flex or gaps found and feels incredibly sturdy at hands. I notice the keyboard deck and lid area are firmer than before. The lid surface is quite flexible at this point and bends easily, but carrying it around on small bag won’t give you any issue here.
Another worth mentioning here is its matte finishing. While it does look good, the surface is easy being of fingerprint magnet especially with oil. I often have to clean it almost every time since it leaves of dirty mark on its lid. Moving into its connectivity, HP is kindly enough to fit of dual Thunderbolt 3 ports and two USB 3.0 standard ports. The ports then accompanied by HDMI, SIM card slot (for some models), and audio slot. The ports selections are widely acceptable and means carrying or buying external adapter is not necessary anymore.back to menu ↑
Security and Workability
HP places of numerous security features for adding extra protection into our system. First, we have of a fingerprint scanner that works incredibly fast on reading our finger, but for some reasons they put it in very off way and sometimes considered as hard to reach. Another solution they want us to use here is the IR camera scanner which connected into Windows 10 Halo. Unfortunately, the camera does not scan your retina and means there is huge chance some users could fake it. The facial recognition is having some issue and many researchers talk about its security. The fingerprint scanner is the most trusted method you have here.
As for workability, both of keyboard and display are enjoyable enough for daily usage especially with its 15 inch FHD panel that looks sharp and bright. It produces of 97 % SRGB color and goes bright at 287 nits. You won’t have any issue for enjoying movies and running games. The keyboard is also worth mentioning here as it’s incredibly worked great in long term of usage. The keys are well spaced and featuring a defined drop. There are two levels backlit support would help you typing in darker environment.

Performance and Battery
The Intel I7 7820HQ is very common used in lot of gaming laptops, but in business machine is rarely happened considering it features of high power consumption. The four cores CPU here clocked at 2.9 GHz clocked and boosted into 3.9 GHz with proper cooling method. In term of performance, the processor manages to core of 80 % more performance than the ULV I7 7500U chipset. The result is actually pretty noticeable and acceptable especially when seeing its 45 TDP watts. The power consumption is high relatively high and becoming a short coming. In comparable with 8th gen I7 8550U, the processor only has 20 % less performance, but with better battery life here. By seeing how it performs, the performance is never being an issue here.
Talking about its battery life, I am surprised the battery runs very good at this case. I am getting of 10 to 11 hours for doing light browsing while connected to WIFI. The 67 Wh battery seems big enough for delivering the result we want. Keep in mind I put the brightness setting into 50 percent level and set the power mode into balanced. Different usage might give you better or worse battery usage here. Overall, I am satisfied with both of performance and battery usage.back to menu ↑
The Elitebook 1040 is successfully of delivering of an amazing performance on its long last battery life. The high power consumption does not bring any issue on battery thanks to big capacity of battery. I will not give much complaint here considering everything looks very nice. I just hope it has a dedicated GPU that should be a perfect companion here. This could be a good recommendation for you, but keep in mind it costs you nearly 2000 dollars here. The choice is always on you, so be sure to pick of what you need.
