The ASUS ROG GL504 is a sleek and modern gaming laptop which equipped with 8th gen processor and GTX 1060 graphic card. The system itself is upgraded version from its predecessor, the GL503 that released last year. While it does not bring new things in design, the performance boosted is much appreciated considering the processor is no longer quad core, but Hexa core. The additional boosted of two new cores will give better performance for handling lot of multitasking works included of making YouTube videos or just editing your photo. For under 2000 dollars, I guess this could be your best shots at this price range although its competitors like Predator Helios 300 PH315 and Gigabyte Aero 15X should give you similar specification at lower prices.
The manufacture provides few different hardware configuration, so be sure to checking everything before you decide to order it. The Core I5 version is slightly cheaper in comparable with the I7 one. Keep in mind, the processor is not being a big problem for gaming and the I5 is more than enough. For GPU, you have a choice for either of GTX 1060 and 1070. Both of them have 200 dollars price differences, think about it twice here. We are going to talk about this system further on this article, so it’s better for us to jump into the article now.
Case and Looks
If there is a company who good of making stylish gaming system besides than Razer, then it should be ASUS. The design looks great by combined of plastic and aluminum construction. The base and surrounded the area is created from plastic while the lid gets some better treatment with aluminum. In term of quality, I won’t give my complaint as the base and lid resist to pressure really well although the design is yet very slim. Talking about portability, the laptop is weight only for 2.4 kg and featuring just a 26.1 mm thickness. It’s crazy considering how powerful the hardware it carries inside. I just hope this case won’t bring any issue to thermal management.
I will give my big appreciated for ASUS to step up and making the bezel is really thin here. We see of a clear trend here and I am pretty sure bezel-less design should be our future. Unfortunately, this case brings new problem at this case. As the result of no empty space to put the webcam camera, the manufacture places the webcam underneath the screen and the result looks weird as I have problem for seeing my face. If you expect to do some video streaming while playing games, then this would be a big problem for you.back to menu ↑
Multimedia Features and Maintenance
The 120 Hz refresh rate is being a new standard for a gaming machine in 2018 and ASUS has not forgotten to include it this case. The 15 inch IPS panel is produced by AU and looks better than any standard screen for a laptop around 1000 dollars. Well, the thing is normal considering how expensive the price here. First, I tried of measuring the brightness and it’s surprisingly bright. It produces of 338 nits for brightness and looks bright even for 40 % brightness level. In term of quality, it covers of 96 % SRGB color and could be a perfect place for editing YouTube videos.
Interestingly, the maintenance support is better than I see last year. Removing the screws and put some amount of power would make you get inside. You soon find of 2.5 inch HDD drive, M.2 slot with PCIe support and two RAM slots which single of them is used here. I expect of less upgradable capability, but ASUS almost offers everything here. Unfortunately, I cannot find the way to open the keyboard easily and bringing it some professionals is recommended here.

Performance and Gaming
For getting a proper gaming experience, a laptop with I5 processor and GTX 1050 TI is more than enough, but keep in mind this specification won’t last long enough especially considering how fast the development of game is. If you expect not to switch your system for at least three years, then GTX 1060 and I7 processor is a must have here. Thankfully, you have everything you need here as both of that hardware specs is featured here. The I7 8750H is a brand new processor and brings significant performance improved over its last generation. The 1060 graphic card then should let you run any games in medium or high setting depending on what kind of games you want. The 1070 is even better, but it costs you nearly 2000 dollars.
The gaming performance is overall better than I expect moreover with now better cooling management. Yeah, the system gets hot easily, but not as hot as before. The higher CPU clocks last longer although it drops significantly with heavy usage in long duration time. The I5 8300H would give you better result at this case. The throttling is noticeable here although the result is much better than we have seen in Dell XPS 15 which really considered as worst.back to menu ↑
The ROG GL504 is stylish and high performance machine which specifically created for gaming purposes. The performance is yet powerful, but the portability is still being an important aspect here. 2.2 kg is something rarely seen and users can just carry it around anytime they want. Just make sure to always carry is charger because the battery is always never being expected from a gaming device. With neat price tag and decent hardware specs, I think I have no reason not to recommend of this laptop. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration about it.
