Dell XPS 13 9360 Review – A Bezel-less High Performance Laptop

The convertible laptop market is becoming more competitive right now as we see almost every company have their own product to show to their consumers. On Lenovo, we have Yoga 720 that looks promising thanks to its hardware component that worth more than the price. On the other side, we also have ASUS with its Zenbook, HP with their X360 series and many more. Although there are so many great choices outside there, the XPS 13 is still remaining as my top choices thanks to its premium design, InfinityEdge display, long battery life, and it’s lightweight. Moreover, the company offers very competitive price in comparable with Apple and Microsoft.

That is the main reason why it got so popular easily because competitive price and high end hardware is something that every person searching for. In this 2018, to keep up with the times, Dell upgrades its performance by replacing of old Kaby Lake processor with Intel’s new 8th gen processor. It takes huge leap in term of horse power, but do you think this device is still worth to take in 2018? Let’s find out.

This is what we are going to talk about here. We are going to talk about it further and see how it differences over the last version. To make it easier for you to understand, let’s jump into the article.

Premium Made Design

The design is one of the biggest selling points here. The company has not making any change in term of look for the device in many years, but there are few worth things worth to mention here. The bottom surface and lid now are created from CNC aluminum material that looks light and strong. Depending on your choice, the entire body is going to be covered on either of rose gold or silver. Both of them are nice, so just pick one that you think suit to your needs. Move to the inside, I personally love its deck which is covered by soft fiber touch that feels soft and comfortable enough for long usage.

On the top of its keyboard, you soon find what they called as InfinityEdge display where they are able to fit of 13 inch display into 11 inch bezel. The bezel surrounded the display is so slim and almost nowhere to find here. Now all you see here is only the content and say goodbye to annoying and thick bezel. For the weight itself, 2.78 pounds with dimension at 11.98 x 7.88 x 0.6 inches are not something bad to have here. It fits any small bag with no issue. The portability might be your nice consideration to have it.

Keyboard And Port Connectivity

Dell XPS 13 9360 2 You might find hard to type on smaller keyboard because sometimes it feels so shallow. Luckily, the thing is not happened here. Even though the keyboard is quite shallow for some reason it offers me nice experience on typing. The 1.22 mm travel distant is decent here and I was able to type for more than 85 words per minute with minimal error rate around 1 percent. The result is similar to my standard and I think the woven carbon fiber deck is comfortable enough to make you stay with it in many hours.

As for the connectivity, Dell easily kills its competitors because they manage to fit of full pledge connectivity. There are 2 USB 3.0 ports which is nice since we do not have to use the extra adapter in order to plug our smartphone. If you love modern port, do not worry here because it also features of Thunderbolt 3 port that usable for connecting it to the bigger screen, transferring data, and charging the device. Port connectivity is important here as our work would be dependable on it.

The Performance Over The Battery Life

One thing that I love from Intel Coffee Lake processor is the power consumption. Intel manages to boosts its performance without force more battery consumption. The Intel I7 8550U is capable of handling any task included the light task and even the heaviest one. I tried to convert my 1080p video by using of HandBrake video converter and it gives around 19 minutes to finish it. The difference is so big here since the Kaby Lake version only gives me 31 minutes in order to convert it. It means that we have 62 percent more performance here. All the 8 CPU Threads seems to the one that put the performance here.

The battery life is not an issue here. For most all of time, I always get of up to 14 hours of battery usage. It basically offers me 15 hours and 25 minutes of usage in single charge. I think bringing the charger around is not necessary anymore. Powerful performance and durable battery life are something hard to find right now. There is no way to find similar choices outside there.
