For getting a gaming machine you probably have to spend for around 1000 dollars. It’s tough for some people because sometimes we do not want to spend that much for a laptop as there are so many things need to consider first. Surprisingly, Acer has a pretty great deal right now if you looking for a high performance machine, but in affordable price. Their answer is the Acer Aspire E 15 E5. Anyone who is familiar with Acer then probably knows about this product. The system is equipped with Intel Core 15 8550U alongside with NVIDIA 150MX. That specs are impressive considering its price that only around 600 dollars. Finding the same specs with the same price is impossible here.
The company really put their budget on performance and this is where the design is sacrificed. The design is not appealing than what you think. It looks too simplistic and not charming. I guess its worth for us to take look into it and find out how it turns to be. That is what we are going to talk about here. To make it easier for you to understand, let’s we jump into the article.
The entire chassis of the system is created from mostly of plastic. The lid itself is featuring plastic construction that covered with woven cotton material. The design is really typical of their affordable laptop and there is not much thing to expect from it. With 4.9 pounds of weight and dimension at 15 x 10.2 x 1.2 inches, the device is slightly thicker and heavier than Swift 3 and Vivobook s510. Luckily, carrying it around is not something bad to have here. I can throw it into my bag easily although I have to bring larger bag for this time.
Because of its thick and heavy chassis, the port connectivity is well complete here. There are 2 USB 3.0 ports and single USB type-C for doing all of stuff like transferring data, connecting accessories, or just plugging your smartphone. The ports left here are HDMI, audio jack, micro SD slot, and Ethernet port. On the left side, you soon find a DVD RW drive and another USB 2.0 port and I have to say everything is so decent here. The reason of design is thicker maybe because the company decides to put of DVD RW which is old right now, but I guess many people still need it.back to menu ↑
Input Devices And Display
The E 15 keyboard offers a mixed impression here. I am able to type for around 80 words per minute with very minimal error rate, but sadly its 1.6 mm key travel and 68 grams of punctuation is not so comfortable for typing in long usage. I think by reducing the travel key into 1.5 mm will offer better experience, but Acer did not make any improvement. The keyboard is just okay for gaming, but might think twice to use it for working. On the other side, the touchpad gives great experience here. The 4.3 X 3.1 inch touchpad is wide and giving clicky and solid feel to every our click. The Windows gesture is fully supported here for navigational swipe and all other stuff.
In term of display, the 1080p resolution in 15.6 inch screen is great for both gaming and working. The 1080p display is not the brightest and crispest I have ever seen, but pretty much dependable for doing multiple purposes. It produces 80 percent of SRGB color which is great for system at this price. The brightness is okay here with 238 nits, but might need you to adjust it little bit for outdoor usage. The display is just okay, but not great.

The performance is the biggest selling point here. The combo between Intel I5 8250U and NVIDIA 150MX are combined greatly here. The hardware produces huge amount of power and probably the cheapest gaming device to afford right now. I have tested few games here and the result is impressive. Rocket League is playable around 50 to 60 FPS all the time at highest setting on 1080p resolution. Reducing the setting to medium improve the performance better if you prefer to have FPS over graphic. The next game I tried here is PUBG. Well, it plays around 30 to 40 FPS with 720p resolution and low setting. I am surprised with the result since this is a 600 dollars device.
The battery is a not a big problem here with 8 hours and 25 minutes of usage. Browsing through the internet while connected to WIFI would mostly give up to 8 hours battery life while playing games for nonstop usually offer 5 to 6 hours of usage. I do not think the battery is bad here as 6 hours is enough to run couple of matches on PUBG and Rocket League. This can be a consideration for taking this laptop.
The Aspire E 15 is a must have system for anyone find it hard to afford for expensive gaming rig. Its performance and battery life are dependable for playing AAA and indie games at medium and high setting. The NVIDIA 150MX is basically the mobile version of GTX 1050, so we can expect of top notch performance here. Still, I do not recommend you to take it just by seeing its design. Well, the choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration. I just hope the information is useful for you and see you again next time.
