ASUS Zenbook UX461UN DS74T is taking their way in 2018 as the company answer to compete with Dell XPS and HP Spectre X360. The system features of lot interesting things that make it stand in the crowded. At the same price, it offers better performance with Intel Core I7 8th gen processor and 16GB of memory as the main power to run the system. These two things then are supported by 512 NVMe SSD that runs faster and reliable than its competitors can do. Seeing this hardware is already get me so interested to take it as my main consideration.
The company really put well balance performance with its price range. I think this is the reason why this system is so popular nowadays among business users and students. I think its worth to spend our time on checking it further and see how it works on satisfying our needs. That is what we are going to talk about it. We are going to talk about it further on this article. To make it easier for you to understand, let’s we jump into the article.
Design And Value
The design is not having much difference in comparable on what they did last year here. I do not say it as bad because there is nothing really wrong with it. One thing that makes difference is the weight for the system itself. The aluminum construction allows them to put durable and light chassis at the same time. The system is weighting just for around 3.3 pounds with dimension at 12.9 x 8.9 x 0.5 inches. The result is similar to Dell XPS in term of weight, but here ASUS provides you lot of choices port connectivity as return. There are standard and modern ports placed bit forward into its chassis. There are USB 3.0 ports alongside with Thunderbolt 3 ports for multi functional works like transferring data and connecting it to the bigger monitor.
Opening the lid, you will be welcomed by 13 inch display and small size keyboard at the center of its base. The 13 inch panel is surrounded by thin bezel and following trend of Infinity displays that becoming so popular on laptop and smartphone. Yeah, the bezel is thin here and feels strong as I swap it back over and over. Pushing it with power is also not giving any flex to the base. For me, the build quality is impressive and looks like something that not easily to break.back to menu ↑
Like many similar business model laptops, the system is featured of fingerprint reader that allows users to instantly open their system by tracking their finger. The fingerprint works surprisingly fast and takes not more than 1 second to open the lockscreen. The feature is fully supported by Windows 10 Hello features and thing worth mentioning here. Having a fingerprint is a standard for business users right now as using password is no longer that safe that sometimes we just the same exact password for more than one account. Here, it’s impossible for people to imitate our fingerprint ID.
When I unboxed it for the first time, I did notice ASUS included of stylus pen on its package. This is an improvement because many companies like Dell decide not to put it into their package for some reasons and force us to buy it separated for 60 to 100 dollars. With its price range, the company manages to include the pen and it works so amazingly responsive on navigating the system. Moreover, the screen supports high pressure level and making taking note and drawing are entirely possible. It gives you new way on using your machine.
|ASUS Zenbook UX461UN||Main Specs|
|CPU||Intel Core I7-8550U Up To 4.0 GHZ|
|OS||Windows 10 Home|
|Memory||16GB DDR3 Memory|
The performance is not an issue here as it’s powered by brand new hardware. The Intel I7 8550U is considered as the most powerful mobile CPU right now. It produces more performance in comparable with last year Kaby Lake version, but still promising the same exact power consumption. As the companion for processor, the graphic sector is powered by NVIDIA 150MX which is mid end discrete graphic card. This GPU is far superior to Intel HD and only slightly fall behind from GTX 1050. For testing its power, I tried to render 1080p videos and the result is interesting. The processes ended 15 minutes faster than what I similarly did on the same processor, but with Intel HD integrated card.
For getting more detail about its performance, testing it with running some games are great way. Starting it with PUBG, the game runs around 30 to 40 FPS all the time at lowest setting. Bump the setting into medium will reduce the framerate and making it not playable. This game is well known for its poor optimization and this result is very normal. Testing it with another E-Sport games gives better impression, both Rocket League and DOTA runs it’s supposed to be at high setting up to 30 FPS. If you have planning to play games during your break time, this laptop should be necessary for you.
The Zenbook UX461UN is another worthy choice for under 1500 dollars. You will find many similar choices at this price range, but I am sure it provides you less than what we find here. There would be no stylus pen included, poor display, and of course less performance. If have not making any choice, then just take a look into it. The choice is yours, so feel free to take any consideration. I just hope the information is good enough for you. At last, thank you for reading the article and see you again next time.
