Acer Chromebook 15 CB515 Review – A Big and Powerhouse Chromebook

15.6 inch screen size is considered as the most popular laptops category available right now. I guess users still prefer to have bigger screen for their productivity rather than taking of portability. In Windows, we have seen so many great choices here from ASUS, Samsung. And even Dell. The thing is different on Chromebook where the choice is limited here. Acer Chromebook 15 CB515 should provide what you need here with bigger display and 1920 x 1080p resolution. Most companies will only give you at least 1366 x 768 resolution while Acer is offering better here.

A full HD laptop is very common here, but it gets so special when its combined with cheap price, up to 11 hours battery life, and light aluminum chassis. They really make the device so interested for users with low budget. I have tried the machine for a month now and I only think the keyboard could be better here. I think its worth for us to take look inside and see how it works on us. That is what we are going to talk about here. As for now, let’s we jump into the article.

Ultra-Light Aluminum Design

The laptop looks like a premium device as soon as you close the lid. The metal lid is so catchy here with silver finishing and beveled edges. Sadly, its underneath is not that appealing for some reasons, never ever to show it to your friends if you try to impress them. Moving into the inside, you would find its 15.6 inch screen surrounded by thick bezel. The bezel is quite annoying here because it often bothers me on touching the screen. I could flip the panel into 1800 degree, but it’s not so helpful at all using it on this condition.

One thing gets me surprise here is located on its weight. The system is surprisingly light with only 3.1 pounds and 0.8 inches thickness. We have similar Chromebooks here, but none of them feel as light as this one. ASUS Flip C302CA is lighter here with 2.6 pounds, but keeps in mind it features smaller keyboard and smaller screen. Another worth mentioning thing here is the port connectivity. It has both of USB 3.0 and USB type-C ports. Both of them are split into right and left sides and also accompanied by micro SD slot, charging port, and security lock.

Keyboard and Display

Acer Chromebook 15 2 The Acer’s keyboard is very uncomfortable and deep here. I only manage to type for around 80 words per minute with quite high error rate here. Yeah, the keyboard is very deep and feels bad for many users who never get used with it. It takes a while for me on maximizing my performance and the end result is actually not really great. The 1.5 mm travel distant key and 80 grams punctuation force are not helping at all here. The quality is just average, so never expect something great because you should never find it here.

The keyboard is bad, what about its screen? The same bad thing like its keyboard is not happened here. Finding a 1080p display as good as this case is very rare. It lacks of brightness here, but the color accuracy is great. It produces 68 percent SRGB color which is not bad for the price. The 237 nits is quite low, so make sure to adjust the brightness setting little bit for outdoor activity. Any indoor usage with proper light is not a problem here. I am so happy there is a company that wants to provide something different to their users without sacrificing the price.

Performance and Battery Life

The Chrome OS is armed with Intel Celeron N4200, 4GB RAM, and 32GB EMMC. The performance is dependable for multiple activities without giving much stress to you. I love Chrome operating system because it’s well optimized for low end hardware. Splitting the screen into 10 tabs and streaming 1080p videos on YouTube is not giving me lag or sluggish performance. The Android application works greatly here although not all of them running so perfect. The temperature is not an issue here because we know this Celeron processor has used lower fabrication and better technology than old Celeron CPU.

Move into the battery life, I really manage to steadily use the system all around the day without giving it any charge. It lasts mostly for 11 hours with heavy usage and should run a day straight with minimal or light usage. The battery is always a huge point for Chromebook than Windows for such a long time. Microsoft finally announced their partnership with Qualcomm to fix this problem by offering Always On laptop here. While waiting Microsoft finalizing and tweaking their new system, why do not you take this device as your main consideration for now?

Final Thought

The Chromebook 15 is having everything we need for a great Chromebook. The product has nice and solid design, acceptable performance, and long last battery life. The price point is also a huge point here where the company puts lower price here than its competitors. If you decide to get a system with long last battery and premium design, then you are in good way here. Once again, the choice is yours so feel free to take any consideration here. Users might have different view point for it as always. Be sure to check our other articles and be mind to leave some comments below for further assistance.
