The new Intel 8th generation ULV processor has been released alongside with NVIDIA Pascal based generation graphic card and already used in so many mid end to premium laptops. Manufactures started to upgrade their products with this new processor including of this Korean company with Samsung Notebook 9 Pro NP900X5T. Last year, they put of Core I7 from 7th generation and 940MX which seems powerful enough, but the dual core processor means have slower performance for doing multi-tasking work. With new quad core CPU from I7 8550U, they hope the performance should be more dependable for multiple purposes works.
Other than the hardware upgrade, you are not going to find any new different because Samsung puts the same design and chassis here. If design is your main concern, then you might be disappointed especially when you do not really love its previous design. Thankfully, the design here looks pretty good and solid with CNC aluminum material. The chassis is sturdy, light, and easy to carry around despite its 15 inch size. Well, I am going to share my opinion after using it for couple of weeks. So, let’s take a look at it further on this article.
Design and Connectivity
If you are familiar with LG Gram 15 design, then Samsung basically is doing something similar by putting of CNC aluminum to reduce its weight. The chassis itself is really light and 50 percent lighter than most laptops available right now even though LG does better by having its much lighter here. This material might not look so beauty in front of your eyes, but the durability is the main selling point. In term of quality, the chassis feels rigid and solid, but the surface itself suffers of flex especially when you push it with some amount of power. The case is then very noticeable at lid area and lacks of Gorilla Glass protection through its LCD screen.
Another worth mentioning here is the hinge system. For some reasons, the rigidity and stability of base drops quickly when you bend it up to 130 degree. Not a big problem, but worth to know here. As for the connectivity, I still find of USB 2.0 port alongside with 2 USB 3.0 and a single USB type-C Thunderbolt 3 port. I think putting a USB 2.0 in premium devices is something bad even the manufacture costs it by placing of Thunderbolt 3 port. Overall, the design is okay, but they still have some works on improving few parts here.back to menu ↑
Display and Method of Input
Samsung smartphone is very well known with its high quality display and I really feel the same impression found here. The 15 inch IPS screen looks great although they do not directly produce it and takes it from BOE. Interestingly, the maximum of brightness is really bright and reaches of 528 nits. Put it in half of brightness level is even already bright enough for outdoor usage. It also produces of 100 percent SRGB color and showing of crisp and detail images to any content you see. If you prefer a bright screen laptop for your meeting and outdoor usage, then this could be my best recommendation here.
As for the input, we have a fully backlit support keyboard with 1.5 mm travel distant. The keys are firmer, responsive and better than Dell XPS 15 9570, but it’s quite noisy especially when users typing in fast. The overall experience is pretty usable although you soon find the keyboard from Dell Precision or Lenovo Thinkpad is better here. Moves into its trackpad, you soon find a small trackpad at bottom of its keyboard. The size is not really big, but it works smoothly and accurately on tracking of our every finger movement.

Performance and Battery
The huge upgraded is made on hardware sector. The dual core processor is no longer found and swapped with much dependable companion, the I7 8550U processor. It features of quad core CPU at 1.8 GHz clock rate. The performance in single core is less powerful here because it has lower clock frequency, but the performance in multi thread is far better since we have two new additional cores. As the companion for graphic processing unit, they add of NVIDIA 150MX which based on GT 1030. This graphic card can be 30 to 40 percent more powerful than 940MX we see last year. It takes game nicely in low or medium setting included of Fortnite and Overwatch. Games play really well even the performance is still in different level than a gaming laptop.
I am afraid the really bright screen would make its battery life dropped, but I am surprised to find it runs fine for 10 hours on my battery test. I have tested it by browsing through the internet and I always get around 9 to 10 hours in single charge. The result is impressive considering I put the brightness at 60 percent which bright enough and doing lot of intense work here. They bump the battery from 66 Wh to 75 Wh which becoming the reason why the battery is so good.
The Notebook 9 Pro is a wise deal to afford for under 1500 dollars. I really know there are so many good choices at this price level, but keep in mind Samsung offers better of things here by giving you a very light and portable machine with powerful performance, bright display, and long last battery. The battery is always an issue on some premium devices, but the thing is completely gone here. Just take any consideration from it and see how it works on you. I just hope the information is good enough on making you a consideration, the choice is always yours.
